We are seeking a Dangerous Goods and Security Officer to join the CMA team at our Calgary, AB base. This position will report directly to the Director of Flight Operations and indirectly to the Accountable Executive. The Dangerous Goods and Security Officers primary responsibilities are to understand, uphold, implement, and validate the companys dangerous goods program, and security requirements by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices while playing a crucial role in maintaining and improving the programs by identifying areas for improvement, providing recommendations, and monitoring their effectiveness.

Job Description
  • In consultation with departments, develop, implement, and maintain regulatory and operational standards, technical documentation and required procedures for the administration of policies and procedures, dangerous goods compliance, security screening, protection of employees, protection of passengers, protection of assets, security in emergency and increased threat situations, business continuity planning, investigation of security incidents and other related issues as required.

  • Coordinate dangerous goods and security training and awareness training in compliance with IOSA and TC standards.

  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, advice, support and assistance on dangerous goods, security, and service deliveries.

  • Maintain the ongoing maintenance and development of the companys dangerous good policies, security policies, implementation manuals, memos, notices, and advisories.

  • Monitor all dangerous goods and security reports filed through the companys non-punitive reporting system and assist managers with responses and data collection as appropriate.

  • Analyze technical data for dangerous goods and security trends, events, and occurrences.

  • Coordinate and manage the dangerous goods program.

  • RAIC applications and returns.

  • Represent the company, as required, on related forums regarding dangerous goods and security policies.

  • Any additional responsibilities or duties assigned by the DFO.

Job Requirements
  • Knowledge of Transport Canada regulations pertaining to dangerous goods and air carrier/air cargo security; CATSA Act, CASRs, ACSM, SMRAC and IOSA.

  • Ability to prepare clear and concise written procedures, reports, and documentation.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and interpret complex documentation and data.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey information, findings, and recommendations.

  • A motivated and enthusiastic team player who can work in an autonomous or team setting.

  • Effective interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, flight crews and Company management.

  • Possesses analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, adaptability to change and good time management.

  • Strong ability to determine performance goals and ability to hold others accountable.

  • Ability to abide by the rules of confidentiality.

  • Dangerous goods and security course(s) or equivalent qualification an asset.

  • Previous experience in aviation or a related role is preferred.

  • University degree preferred.
