Job Description:
Principal Accountabilities

  • Must be the leader of a field team dispatched when there is a small number of team members.
  • Is allowed to perform up to a maximum of five (5) hours per week of company-related administrative duties (i.e., time and attendance sheets and home office required reports).
  • Required to determine the scope of work by diagnosing the source of the problem, repair required, and estimating the material and manning requirements to accomplish the work.
  • The work performed by the Crew leader is distinguished by its technical complexity, difficulty, and special or unusual nature.
  • Advanced technical knowledge is applied to solve unusually complex problems.
  • The Crew Leader is required to provide technical assistance and guidance to those employees with lesser skills.
  • May be required to inspect the work of lesser-skilled employees when an Inspector is not assigned to the crew.
  • Crew Leader is the leader of a crew of ten (10) employees or less requiring less supervision and administration.
  • Must be a Crew Leader 1 with more than ten (10) employees, but under the direct supervision of a burden leadman.
  • Comply with all current sections of the COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series applicable to aircraft maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of technical publications, NAMP, and NALCOMIS aircraft maintenance applications.
OTHER or ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must possess leadership and administrative skills, and knowledge of the assigned field of expertise to provide technical assistance and guidance on all probably assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge of Safe working techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to plan and schedule maintenance work requirements.
  • Requires working technical knowledge of aircraft, machinery, facilities, and equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to offer technical direction in all maintenance areas.
  • Understand technical language terms in the associated field.
  • Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Must have full knowledge of the Navy 4790.2 series and the RDT&E community
  • Knowledge of military publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work requirements.
  • Working knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Possess a valid US State drivers license.
  • Ability to read and interpret data is required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to obtain a Government flight line drivers license.
  • Ability to obtain a secret security clearance.
Experience & Education

  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Associates degree or trade license preferred.
  • A&P License/FAA Certification desirable but not required
  • Four (4) years of actual and recent experience in the signed field of expertise is desirable.
  • Must possess the experience level of the base classification being used to apply the Crew Leader premium.
  • Completion of specialized courses in aircraft structural repair is required.

Requirements/Working Environment

  • May work in aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, and identify small objects and hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings, and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.
