AHUK offers considerable experience in helicopter sales, bespoke completions, maintenance and spares support.  Its in-house engineering capabilities include design, customisation, installation, flight-testing and certification, as well as technical support, maintenance, training and the supply of spares for civil and military applications.

AHUK is the MoD’s chosen provider of helicopters and maintenance for its Defence Helicopter Flying school (referred to as MFTS) located in RAF Shawbury (Shropshire) and RAF Valley (Anglesey).

Description/Overall purpose of the Job

(Operations Controller, Shawbury - UK Military Flying Training System (Rotary Wing) Reports to UK MFTS (RW) Operations Delivery Manager

  • The Operations Controller is responsible for the daily liaison with the customer and end-user, regarding the H135 and H145 Fleet Plan – including the Daily and Weekly Flying Programmes.

The main responsibilities of the post holder will be:

  • Act as the AH primary focal point in Operations and Line Control, continually liaising with the customers Scheduler, to deliver the Daily Flying Programme.
  • To ensure that all appropriate legislative and Company Procedures are adhered to in order to ensure that the Company remains compliant and aircraft airworthy.
  • Entry of Technical log utilisation data onto the Maintenance system.
  • Negotiation with customer counterpart as to the catergorisation of completed sorties – DCO, DPCO, DNCO etc.
  • Update and maintain the UK MFTS (RW) Engineering Database for sortie feedback reporting, in support of the Operational Effectiveness Programme.
  • Liaison with the Operations, Engineering and Technical Services Team to ensure timely delivery of the Daily Flying Programme.
  • Identify provisional maintenance dates for allocated aircraft based on projected utilisation and update the Maintenance planning calendar with &39;Provisional&39; maintenance dates.
  • Other such reasonable tasks as instructed by  AHUK management in support of the MFTS operation     

The post holder would ideally have the following Knowledge and Skills:

ESSENTIAL

  • Understanding of aircraft fleet management relating to flight operations.
  • Strong problem solving and able to offer multiple alternate solutions to problems.
  • Must have knowledge of CAA regulations relating to Flight Operations, Airworthiness and Maintenance requirements.
  • Excellent Communicator – verbal, written and reporting.
  • Must have high computer literacy skills, competent with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access).
  • Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills.

We require the post holder to have the following Education, Qualifications or special training:

ESSENTIAL

  • Academic qualification in Aviation related discipline (NVQ, BTEC, HNC/D).
  • Fleet Planning Qualification.
  • Human Factors Training.

DESIRABLE

  • Formalised CAA Part 145 and Part M training.
  • Project Management Qualification.
  •    

The post holder should have the following experience:

ESSENTIAL

  • Previous experience in a Daily Fleet Planning role – Airport or Military Aircraft Operations is desirable.
  • Experienced negotiator.
  • Experience of Project/Operations Management in the Aerospace industry.
  • Experience of ERP and database systems.
  • Prior experience of coordinating activity at multiple locations.

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience as an Aircraft Engineer, preferably experienced on rotorcraft.
  • Previous experience of acting as a customer focal point.

  

Key performance indicators:

  •   Maintain aircraft availability levels of >98 at Shawbury (including deployments)

Other requirements:

  • You will be required to work a shift pattern as part of normal working routine.
