Job Summary:

The Avionics & Electrical Specialist is an integral member of the Advanced Design & Development (AD&D) team. AD&D is a small group within Cirrus Aircraft Product Development whose charter is the development of new capabilities and technologies intended for our current and next generation aircraft.

A&E Specialists will conceive and develop prototype components and systems. The scope may range from individual systems to creating circuitry and integration of third-party systems. Problem-solving and communication skills are highly valued as the role is a crucial part of new product development. Specialists also need to work effectively in groups and with other departments across the organization. A thorough knowledge of drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics and a strong attention to detail and quality are required to maintain safety of flight. A drive for constant improvement and an inquisitive nature are essential to this role. The ideal candidate is comfortable with driving results even during the vague early stages of development.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Take on projects and own them until completion.
  • Design, build, and assemble components, tools, and mechanisms for evaluation.
  • Be willing to learn and take on new tasks to strengthen the teams overall abilities.
  • Time management to minimize aircraft down time.
  • Understand the different requirements for producing both flight worthy and research & development parts respectively.
  • Help determine readiness of flight test aircraft.
  • Review & maintain aircraft forms, records, and documentation following all Cirrus Aircraft and FAA procedures.
  • Conduct ground tests on Experimental and Certified aircraft.
  • Maintain tool control and calibration of tools and test equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining a functional well-organized A&E lab.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools

Qualifications

  • 2-year degree in an electronics technologies field or equivalent vocational or military training plus 5 years industry experience
  • Direct fabrication, installation, and troubleshooting experience of electronic components.
  • Ability to conceptualize, design, and build from your thoughts and from others input.
  • Experience with breadboard design with focus on rapid prototyping.
  • Experience with cable management.
  • Ability to work closely with engineering to define requirements.
  • Knowledge of Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc. and coding
  • Ability to distinguish colors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in aerospace or aviation.
  • Experience with Garmin avionics.
  • Familiarity with pitot static and radar systems
  • IPC-620 or IPC-610 certified
  • Experience with PTC Creo, Matlab, LabView, Altium, Python, or JIRA Software
  • Knowledge of aerospace requirements and standards like RTCA DO-160
  • Experience in a collaborative design or prototype environment.
  • Familiarity with composites and construction methods with a focus on the installation/assembly of electrical and electronic systems
  • Experience in mitigating and troubleshooting EMI.
  • Experience with robotics and automation.
