GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Avionics & Mission Systems Technician is responsible to maintain the mission systems on the USAF E-9A Aircraft. The primary mission systems are the Telemetry Relay System, Sea Surveillance Radar System, Drone Control & Relay System/Data Link System, UHF Relay System and the Flight Termination System. Candidate will perform troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of the E-9 aircraft electrical systems, electronics, avionics and mission systems.

DUTIES

  • Perform avionics and mission systems maintenance in accordance with FAA regulations, airworthiness directives, USAF policies and procedures and company policies.
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and service E-9A aircraft mission systems and associated equipment in accordance with all applicable governance.
  • Read and interpret maintenance manuals, technical specifications, engineering drawings FAA Technical Standard Orders and USAF Technical Orders to determine repair methodology of malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Test system operations, using testing equipment to detect and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Service, repair, calibrate and maintain avionics, electronics and specific mission systems equipment by performing tasks associated with maintaining specific equipment.
  • Research FAA technical data which is applicable to all assigned tasks
  • Keep tools and support equipment in a safe and operational condition at all times IAW USAF standards
  • Responsible for his/her assigned work area, shop or ramp, to ensure that it is kept clean and free of hazards
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid drivers license with good driving record
  • Must have a current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license
  • Must provide own A&P Mechanics Toolkit
  • Must have an Aviation Electrician Technician Certification or equivalent
  • Must have a General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
  • Must have a Miniature/Microminiature Electronic Repair (2M/MTR) Certification
  • Candidates must also meet one of the following minimum experience levels performing aircraft electronic systems intermediate or depot level maintenance:
    • Five (5) years of experience as a FAA certified repairman or equivalent or
    • Level 7 Air Force certification (or other service/civil service equivalent) or
    • Recent relevant experience maintaining current configuration of E-9 aircraft avionics and mission systems

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.

  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
  • May be required to read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.
