Purpose  

The Aircraft Mechanical Engineer performs engineering work including design, analysis, substantiation, certification, drawing interpretation and project management related to maintenance, modification and repair of transport category aircraft. Provides or coordinates engineering drawings related to aircraft systems and components in support of VVIP / VIP aircraft completions.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Design and analyze aircraft systems and components, typically in support aircraft interior modifications and avionics upgrades (STC projects). 
  • Prepare engineering reports, Engineering Authorization (EAs), drawings, analysis, and test plans. 
  • Develop cabin modification/installation work instruction, procedures and recommendations. 
  • Coordinate and monitor mechanical and systems aspects of project schedule with project managers. 
  • Monitor and support kit development and parts suppliers (internal and external) requirements. 
  • Support mechanical aspects of proposal development. 
  • Coordinate with foreign and domestic approval authorities and their representatives for any necessary assistance and/or approvals.
  • Work within engineering team to delegate and assign work to appropriate team members. 
  • Applies area of specialty to design, develop and implement creative and innovative solutions to difficult problems. 
  • Strive for continuous process improvements and increasing efficiencies in execution and delivery with safety as a priority.
  • Maintain close and frequent communication with the Director of Engineering/Chief Engineer, notifying him/her of progress and any road-blocks or threats to the project’s critical path that could impact re-delivery.
  • Deal with Customers in a cordial, respectful and professional manner, and to see to it that all personnel behave accordingly.
  • To lead by example at all times; through professional behavior, integrity, commitment to the company and compliance with its policies.
  • Ensure the highest quality service, safety standards and performance, with the objective of exceeding customer satisfaction in the re-delivery of airworthy, reliable and clean aircraft, in a timely manner.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. 

 

Reporting Relationship

  Reports to the Director of Engineering / Chief Engineer.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.  
  • 5+ years of experience in Aviation Mechanical/Systems Engineering, including experience in the design, certification and modification of aircraft systems.
  • Experience with certification processes and requirements including Supplemental Type Certificate (STC), Organizational Design Authority (ODA), and other regulatory certification and airworthiness requirements.

 

DESIRED

 

  • Experience with AutoCad, SolidWorks, or other engineering design software applications.
  • Experience with all phases of VIP and VVIP completions for narrow and wide body aircraft including project design, sourcing, planning, certification and execution of modifications.

Working Conditions

The work is performed in an office environment, aircraft hangar, at the departure gate or on the aircraft parking ramp.
