Position Summary

The Avionics Engineer is responsible for engineering activity relating to aircraft avionics systems and related components on the Airbus and Embraer aircraft. The Engineer will support both line and heavy maintenance activities / modifications on the JetBlue fleet.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Reviews and actions Airworthiness Directives (ADs) to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Reviews Service Bulletins, Service Letters, all Operator Letters, etc. for applicability and system reliability and/or economic benefits
  • Responsible for the understanding, periodic review, implementation, update and currency of the Avionics and Electrical systems/components portion of the Maintenance Program
  • Conducts root cause analysis for avionics and electrical system/component problems which may cause aircraft delays, cancellations, substantial expenditures in manpower or materials or interruptions in maintenance operations and initiates the action required to remedy any undesirable condition(s) detected
  • Manage aircraft software configurations and aircraft network security program (ANSP)
  • Develops technical data required for modifications/repairs of aircraft avionics and electrical systems and components
  • Obtains regulatory approval for modifications/repairs performed on JetBlue aircraft avionics and electrical systems and components
  • Initiates the actions required to ensure that source documents affected by engineering actions are updated and reflect current data, configuration and accuracy
  • Develops customized procedures and special criteria for repairs, modifications, inspections, servicing and other maintenance actions which are not adequately addressed in existing manuals
  • Provides engineering documents such as Engineering Orders (EO) to provide technical dispositions for repairs, modifications, inspection or other maintenance actions on avionics and electrical systems and components
  • Establishes build specifications for aircraft avionics and electrical systems/components
  • Trains and assigns work to Associate Engineer as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering. In lieu of this education requirement, must have a Bachelor’s degree in another Engineering field and an Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Technician Certificate, OR must have an Associate's Degree in a technical field, an A&P Technician Certificate, and three (3) years of A&P Technician experience
  • Three (3) years of Engineering or technical experience
  • Knowledge of aircraft electronics and avionics systems, power distribution, cockpit instrumentation and navigation systems
  • Capable of troubleshooting aircraft avionics and system problems
  • Experience in systems integration
  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) governing aircraft certification and maintenance
  • Flexible work schedule required including shift, weekend and holidays
  • Reliability analysis skills to identify root cause of system / avionic problems
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (20%)
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Two (2) years in the US 121 airline industry
  • Computer literate in Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Project
  • Airbus/Embraer experience
  • Reliability analysis skills to identify root cause of systems problems
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical abilities
  • Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to manage and coordinate several tasks and projects simultaneously

 

     Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understanding how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

     Physical Effort:  

  • Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.  (Light)

 

Compensation:

The base pay range for this position is between $75,000.00 and $118,400.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
