The Work
Become a part of something IMPACT-ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks. The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.

The engineer will be part of an Agile scrum team working in 2-week sprints.

The following responsibilities are expected of this engineer:

Technical Performance responsibilities include:
• Perform confirmation analysis to establish that the software products meet requirements
• Design and execute test cases to generate necessary conditions and evaluate results using MATLAB or Python scripts.
• Perform performance and behavioral analysis: measure the performance and characterize the behavior of tactical products and/or candidate algorithms for tactical products
• Perform causal analysis to understand WHY observed behaviors occurred
• Develop algorithms and algorithm design documents to enhance tactical product performance
• Prototype algorithms within simulation of Tactical baseline code
• Evaluate Ada code in the software to compare with algorithmic design or simulated code.
• Evaluate performance of prototypes
• Break down larger tasks into two-week subtasks
• Appropriately estimate size of tasks

Leadership responsibilities include:
• Manage overall task schedules, subtask schedules, and assignments
• Status leadership on task progress

Basic Qualifications:
• 9 Years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline; 7 Years with Master’s degree; 4 Years with PhD.
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: data analysis, performance analysis, or physics/Mathematics-based algorithm development
• General understanding of any or all of the following algorithm domains: track processing, track reporting, discrimination, sensor resource management, resource utilization optimization
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical personnel
• High proficiency in technical problem solving
• Knowledge of MATLAB, Python or similar engineering tools used in prototyping algorithms
• Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills
• Proven track record of successfully integrating problem solutions into a larger system
• Extensive background in Ballistic Missile Defense, midcourse missile defense, battle management, threat state processing, weapon target assignment
• Capable of performing assigned tasks with very little or no direction
• Capability to read and understand the Ada programming language
• Attention to detail
• Active Secret Clearance required with the ability to obtain & maintain a TS Clearance
Desired Skills:
• Experience applying advanced mathematical concepts (Numerical Analysis, Linear Algebra, Probability/Statistics) to complex problems and solutions
• Extensive experience developing algorithms in a MATLAB
environment
• Extensive experience developing analysis tools in MATLAB and PYTHON
• Successful performance of root cause analysis of large complex software systems

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
