The BR&T Specialty Materials and Integration Team is looking for experienced Materials and Process (Aircraft Sub-Systems) Engineers to provide Materials and Process support to Boeing Defense Systems development programs.  We are seeking highly motivated, energetic and capable engineers at multiple levels (Associate, Mid-Level or Senior) to join the BR&T, Specialty Materials and Integration team in Berkeley, Missouri.

This team is responsible for providing Materials and Process (M&P) support to Boeing Defense Systems development programs. We are also responsible for leading materials development efforts (typically non-metallic) as well as identifying, developing, and transitioning specialty materials and technologies to platforms within Boeing Defense Systems.


We are looking for someone who enjoys diversity in their work statement. The work statement will allow you to have depth in the Materials and Process focus area in Mechanical/Structures/Assembly or Metals/Joining/Metallurgy skills, but projects may require you to have more generalized Materials and Process skills including low observable materials, composites, chemical/contamination, and/or sub-systems.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide Materials and Process Engineering support to Development Programs
  • Review and approve sub-systems build-to-print packages, including fuel lines, hydraulic lines, ducts, and machining’s
  • Make routine contact with customers, teaming partners, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined integrated product team, working alongside other skilled technicians, engineers, and support staff
  • Provide design engineering and production floor support for mechanical fasteners and industry standards
  • Provide part modeling support, work on material substitutions and process improvements
  • Leadership in the design, development and analyses of complex and large aerospace structures
  • Produce specifications and other documents to define requirements and manage the use of materials, parts, tools and processes in aerospace production
  • Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
  • Promote standardization across multiple business activities
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to new and existing platform needs
  • Manage test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
  • Conduct analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of mechanical fasteners
  • Daily shipside factory customer interaction and availability
  • Define requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
  • Develop and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
  • Integrates new technologies as appropriate
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Use project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Incorporate environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

Note: Some domestic and international travel may be required. Typically, 10 or less of your time and on an as-needed basis. 

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 1+ years of experience in mechanical/structures assembly, materials and processes engineering, and/or manufacturing research and development
  • 2+ years of experience with technology implementation
  • 2+ years of experience with 3D Modeling tools
  • Project Management experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in aerospace, mechatronics engineering, mechanical engineering, and/or material science
  • Active Security Clearance
  • Experience with Aircraft Subsystems
  • Experience with Forging
  • Experience with Welding and Joining
  • Experience with writing and executing material test plans
  • Experience with Boeing material & process specifications
  • Experience with the evaluation and qualification of materials, suppliers, equipment, technology and processes
  • Experience with Composite Materials, Chemical/Contamination, or Sub-Systems Materials and Process.

Typical Education/Experience: 

Associate (Level 2):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (Level 3):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range for Associate level: $77,350 - $104,650

Summary pay range for Mid-level: $95,200 - $128,800

Summary pay range for Senior level: $116,450 - $157,550
