The Boeing Commercial Airplanes Environmental Control Systems Organization is seeking a Mechanical System and Design Analysis Engineer in Everett, WA. This position will support Ice & Rain Protection (ATA Chapter 30) within Environmental Controls Systems (ECS). This position will support the following programs: 767/777/787 Production and In-Service Support.

This individual will support the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design. Supports the development, maintenance, or modification of system, component, and installation designs/proposals to provide design documentation to downstream groups. Performs and documents analyses to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications in compliance with regulatory (FAA, EASA, etc.) requirements. Contributes to supplier development, test, and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals. Supports system components designs/proposals standards to provide installation and detailed documentation.

The Environmental Control Systems (ECS) organization consists of highly skilled engineers responsible for defining and integrating airplane systems for airplane cabin pressurization, air conditioning, ice and rain protection, fire protection, and avionics cooling. Our mission is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for passengers, flight crew, electronics, and cargo via the most reliable and cost-effective solutions.

We are a team that supports all Boeing models both in development and in airline service.  These models include programs such as the 737MAX, 747-8, 767/KC-46A Tanker, 777/777F, 787, new generations of 777X, and all-new airplane(s) that are currently in early developmental stages.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Requirements Traceability & Development Assurance
  • System Safety Analysis Documentation, including the creation of Fault Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs)
  • Systems Controls Support, including Dynamic Tuning
  • Factory and Airplane Delivery Center Support
  • Helping plan and execute developmental and certification testing and design/conduct flight tests
  • Build Airplane Support Manuals, such as Fault Isolation Manual (FIM) and Component Maintenance Manual (CMM)
  • Integrating with suppliers and customers
  • Develop a project schedule, then maintain deliverable releases on time.
  • Enable high aircraft performance while operating in compliance with regulatory (FAA, EASA, etc) requirements.
  • Instigating corrective action plans and driving these to closure in a timely manner.
  • Utilizing the Boeing Problem Solving Method (BPSM) to investigate the root cause of problems faced both during development and in-service by our customers who use our products.
  • Collaborating with other organizations such as Aerodynamics Performance and Stability & Control, Structures, Flight Deck Crew Operations, Pilots, Electrical Systems, Systems Stress, Customer Services & Airline Customers, Factory and Flight Line Operations, Supply Chain, Airplane Safety, and many others.
  • Learning about legacy development processes and certification Methods of Compliance while actively helping transition Boeing to leverage Model-Based Engineering (MBE)/Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology to write requirements, and conceptual systems.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Technical Knowledge in system controls, mechanical systems, systems modeling, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with model correlation from wind tunnel and/or flight test data to analysis tools
  • Hands-on wind tunnel testing experience.
  • Meteorological knowledge.
  • Experience with JIRA, Azure DevOps, DESE/Cameo, Matlab/Simulink, Scripting code (Matlab, C++, Fortran), Thermal CFD Tool (ANSYS Fluent, Star CCM+, OpenFOAM or other), SINDA/FLUINT, LEWICE3D, FENDSAP-ICE.
  • Strong project management skills to independently execute a variety of projects to completion.
  • Clear communication skills for reporting progress to a wide audience (cross-discipline engineering groups consisting of Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Structures, and ECS).

Typical Education / Experience:

  • Associate (Level 2) Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

  • Experienced (Level 3) Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Salary

Level 1 Salary: $82,000 - $95,000

Level 2 Salary: $92,000 - $120,000
