The Position:

Responsible for engineering IFE projects within the Systems Installation group from an electrical/mechanical/seat design standpoint; from systems integration to installation. Shall be responsible to engineer, design and develop system installation packages based on customers, regulatory and OEMs requirements for production and retrofit applications. Has specific technical project or product responsibility.

Support Systems Installation Group 

  • Support Program Management, Certification, Marketing and other departments to coordinate program requirements.
  • Provide support for planning, customer meetings, preliminary design review (PDR), critical design review (CDR), First Article Inspection (FAI), aircraft surveys, aircraft installations, etc.
  • Review products and provide feedback to Senior Engineers and Management.
  • Coordinate design requirements and review applications for existing programs.
  • Work with external engineering groups to integrate third-party vendor equipment with our systems.
  • Provide technical direction to members of assigned work teams.

Engineer, Design and Develop System Installation Packages 

  • Engineer projects from a seat integration design standpoint under the direction of a Senior Engineer.
  • Engineer and coordinate electrical, and seat installation designs for new aircraft production and retrofit applications.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, CATIA, PRO-E or equivalent design tool to perform design responsibilities for wiring diagrams, cable assemblies, seat configuration, wiring/structural installation drawings, etc.
  • Provide inputs to Drafters for systems design criteria to support aircraft installations.
  • Assist in the guidance and direction for problem solving to Drafters.
  • Perform work distribution to Drafters as required under Senior Engineers guidance.

Documentation 

  • Support development of drawing/document standards per customer and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Design and develop in-flight entertainment electrical, mechanical, and seat installation engineering documentation to support airline customers requirements.
  • Documentation includes aircraft wiring diagrams, cable assemblies, wire removal, structural installation, wiring routing drawings, seat configurations, and electrical load analysis reports, etc.

The salary range of $74,000 – $124,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives.

What Were Looking For: 

  • BSEE, BSME or other relevant Engineering discipline.
  • 5-10 years of mechanical/electrical/seat design experience in the aircraft industry.
  • Possess a strong background and understanding of airline regulatory guidelines and design requirements for aircraft wiring.
  • Solid understanding of avionic component parts utilized in the design and manufacture of cable assemblies and sheet metal brackets (i.e. connectors, contacts, wire types, sheet metal materials, finish, etc.).
  • Ability to apply knowledge of avionic seat design to develop unique system solutions.
  • Exhibit a high degree of understanding of aircraft and avionic terms.
  • Proficient using AutoCAD, CATIA, PRO-E or other design software experience.
  • Advanced ability to develop and implement test methods and procedures.
  • Proven and effective time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to provide technical direction to assigned project teams and perform as a technical expert and a source of information.
  • Highly proficient in project planning while addressing external/internal dependencies and associated logistics across multiple functions.
  • Demonstrated experience proving identifiable contributions to the success of a specific product/project.
  • Develop solutions to clearly defined problems of moderate to diverse scope. Analysis involves selecting the best alternative method or process from among several existing alternatives, or based on evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Use skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures.
  • Proficient with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Electronic Engineering field.
  • Use professional concepts and applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.
  • Uses expertise, experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Interact with senior internal and external personnel.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, in English, both written and verbally.
  • This position requires up to 25 domestic or international travel to support coordination meetings and program reviews at manufacturers.

This means that there is no fixed number, range, or limit to the amount of Personal and Vacation Days that may be taken for exempt employees.
