Job Summary

The Finance Optimization Principal is responsible for analyzing financial and accounting processes, exploring continuous improvement opportunities, and standardizing processes to optimize project accounting and enterprise performance and financial results. The Principal will serve as a change agent, problem solver, and process improvement coach.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging best practices while ensuring system compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and customer or contract specifications.
  • Partner with department leaders to understand business needs and key metrics, inventory and document current processes, prioritize projects, and provide solid results in order to maximize internal customer satisfaction and financial results.
  • Serve as project manager and drive disciplined project execution, leveraging project management and project tracking methodologies including Lean Six Sigma to ensure timely completion with expected results.
  • Conduct specialized studies, perform root cause analysis, determine and implement corrective actions, recommend streamlined process changes and execute process control monitoring; implement detective and preventive corrective action or mitigation programs and incorporate lessons learned into future plans.
  • Work with all levels of Project Accounting to standardize processes and requirements, ensuring compliance, harmony, and consistency with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Write process documentation, operating procedures, and related guidance documents.
  • Build reports and create charts/graphs/diagrams as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of financial and accounting reports with an ability to understand the financial and legal impacts of process design changes.
  • Knowledge of Project Accounting principles, theories, and techniques.
  • Change agent with strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little hands-on direction.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Lean Six Sigma or similar process improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to plan and conduct multi-functional inspections and develop senior management level reports.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in project management and project controls.
  • Effective leadership, communication and interpersonal skills from executive to front line levels, with the ability to collaborate with others.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work under pressure and continuously meet deadlines.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, technical discipline preferred (e.g., Finance, Business, and Accounting).
  • Six (6)+ years of work experience including process controls, process improvement, and Excel modeling.
  • Prefer at least five (5) years of accounting or other similar technical experience.
  • Previous experience coaching and teaching processes preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Typically works in normal office environment with controlled temperature and lighting conditions.

Travel

  • Minimal travel domestically and internationally.
