The A&P Mechanic will maintain, repair, and inspect aircraft to ensure safe operations within guidelines set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This position is specific to an approximate 130-day on-ice stay at McMurdo Field Station in Antarctica. The lead position is also available.
Essential Functions

- Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft.
- Operates all required ground support equipment.
- Ensures proper working condition of mechanic systems before flight.
- Maintains records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and any reports related to parts or services.
- Inspects and examines engines, rotor and tail-rotor blades, hoses, hydraulics, airframe, and components to identify cracks, corrosion, or other defects.
- Consult manufacturer and company maintenance manuals and specifications to identify correct operations and specifications for replacements or repairs.
- Installs new parts to replace or repair defective or recalled parts or to enhance the performance of the aircraft; performs these tasks efficiently and to specifications.
- Repairs – Composite/sheet metal as needed.
- Identifies and resolves mechanical problems based on visual inspections or reports from pilots or other crew members.
- Collaborates, as needed, with other A&P mechanics or appropriate personnel for the completion of various tasks.
Additional Job Duties (as assigned)
- Train new mechanics on the policies and procedures of the maintenance department.
- Data entry for RAMCO implementation and/or audits of maintenance records and policies.
- Other administrative tasks as assigned.
Education and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A&P mechanic certification through the FAA.
- Sufficient oral, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Experience with rotor-wing aircraft, specifically AS350 and Bell 212 platforms.
- Valid passport.
- Valid driver’s license.
- US Citizenship not required (as contractor)
Supervisory Responsibility
This position can possess basic supervisory-level responsibility. Lead positions will oversee all mechanic operations on-ice.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Positions are Salary/ Contract positions and the schedule consists of 6, 12 hours days worked per week on the NSF program as assigned. Salary is based on 182 days worked per year with approximately 90 days on-ice time. Contract employees will have an approximate 90 day commitment per season.

Travel will be required to location McMurdo Station and Surrounding Field Locations, in Antarctica
