Task Description

Ground Support Equipment Mechanic (23380): The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic diagnoses malfunctions and repairs Ground Support Equipment (GSE), advises and trains lower grade workers on diagnosis and repair of less complex repair/maintenance problems, inspects and approves completed maintenance actions, solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and maintenance actions, solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical publications; uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, and analyzes, diagnosis, and repairs GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools. This mechanic maintains external fuel and grounding systems, performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE, inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation, services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical publications.

This work also does the following:

disassembles and assembles malfunctioning GSE accessories and components, removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls GSE components and accessories, stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications, stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations. This mechanic prepares GSE for storage and mobility deployment; and operates, cleans, inspects, and services GSE towing vehicles. In addition to maintaining vehicle records, this mechanic maintains and updates paper and electronic equipment records, provides dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations, practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety at all times.

 

Skill and Knowledge:

 Shall have the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various Ground Support Equipment (GSE)

systems and be able to perform general Organizational Level maintenance and possess one or more of the specialties below:

 

Ground Support Equipment

 

  • Must be knowledgeable of technical directives, Coast Guard programs, and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.
  • GSE Mechanic shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and exhibit leadership and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
  • Thorough working knowledge of GSE maintenance records.
  • Working understanding of the GSE and GSE systems.

 

Responsibility:

  Performs requirements in accordance with the procedures established in the PWS. Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs, lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives.  Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required. May be required to verify work performed by another for which he/she is qualified to perform.

 

Task Requirements:

  • Performs GSE Organizational Level maintenance.
  • Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned GSE.
  • Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, surface finish removal, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation services
  • GSE maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in GSE Systems and related Sub-Systems.
  • Technical Directive compliance and modifications.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment, and sets kits and outfits (SKO).
  • Read and interpret manufacturers maintenance manuals, military technical manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, blueprints, manufacturers’ drawings, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components
  • Perform Pre/Post checks, fueling, and operation of support equipment, to include conditional/scheduled inspections and periodic maintenance support equipment.
  • Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment
  • Perform shift work and/or overtime as required
  • Other duties and task as assigned.

 

Preferred Personnel Qualifications:

  • 10 years or more of GSE Organizational level maintenance

 

Basic Personnel Qualifications:

  • GSE school or equivalent
  • Four years GSE maintenance experience
  • Shall be able to travel in support of detachment operations as required
  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and work on top of or below the aircraft.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools
  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts
  • Must be eligible for a Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Contractors are required to have a Common Access Card (CAC) and shall be required to pass the equivalent of a trustworthy National Agency Check plus Written Inquiries with Credit Check (NACI), IAW DTM-08-003 “Next Generation Common Access Card (CAC) Implementation Guidance”, or latest guidance.

Compensation

$33.73/hour

 

Other Compensation

Employees who opt out of health insurance coverage receive $50.00 on a bi-weekly basis.

Employees are offered medical, dental, vision, and life insurance at 1x base salary. Employees are able to enroll in KAI’s 401k plan.  Employees accrue 4.62 hours of PTO per pay period. KAI employees at the Army National Guard Base in Fresno, CA receive 11 paid holidays.

 

Employment is contingent on (a) your ability to provide appropriate proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States; (b) your references and any background check being satisfactory to the Company; (c) you successfully passing a pre-employment drug test; and (d) your ability to get a required clearance by your effective start date, if needed; and (e) KAI commencing performance on this contract.
