Job Overview

Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking an experienced Level 2 Radiographic Inspector to analyze, interpret and evaluate radiographs of materials, parts and weldments for compliance with required specifications and standards and for developing radiographic techniques and standards.

This will be a Second Shift, Union position located at our facility in Canoga Park, CA (Los Angeles area).

Essential Functions

100 - Perform the following:

Read and interpret information from planning documents, drawings and specifications, engineering orders, inspection procedures, material review reports and other source documents to establish the procedures and requirements needed to perform radiographic inspection of material, parts and weldments. Develop work instructions from approved general procedures.

Set up and operate industrial x-ray and film processing equipment. Be familiar with the codes, standards, specifications and other contractual documents that control the method. Have the skills and knowledge to conduct system performance checks in accordance with the applicable process standard.

Analyze, interpret and evaluate radiographic disclosures without the aid of comparative charts to determine acceptability of materials, parts and weldments. Detect and identify defects affecting quality and safety factors such as cracks, inclusions, segregations, cavities, undercuts, draws, incomplete fusion and porosity. Determine the acceptability of items having marginal defects and reject those that do not comply with required standards and specifications.

Record test results, findings and dispositions manually or with the aid of a computer or computer based system.

Reject items that do not meet acceptance criteria. Coordinate recurring defects with concerned engineering and vendor personnel and recommend corrective action measures.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Minimum work experience of 800 hours.
  • Prior X-ray and DR experience.
  • Certification as a Level 2 Radiographic Inspector, ASNT/NAS410 or equivalent.
  • Have a basic knowledge of product manufacturing and inspection technology.

  • Computer experience to include accessing on-line documents and information, working within the company business systems and Microsoft office.

  • Ability to pass vision test requirements.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:30.00 - 45.00 per hour Note about pay range:Pay range for this job level is a general guideline only for California and/or Washington State and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
