The Maintenance Mechanic at PTG Reed will plan and perform a variety of lathe, grinding, and milling machines, pump, motor, large and small ancillary machinery and other machine diagnosis, trouble shooting, teardown, repair, rebuilding, reconditioning, adjustments, installations, and scheduled maintenance, building and facilities maintenance.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As scheduled or as necessitated by emergency situations, check, troubleshoot or diagnose cutoff saw, surface and specialty grinders, various milling machines, sanders, pedestal polishers, pressers, boilers, filtrations, and sandblast ovens, and other shop machines and mechanical hand tools: air hydraulic, steam, and electrical lines, machine controller’s troubles
  • Determine extent of repairs and make necessary repairs or alterations to damaged or inoperative equipment, apparatus, controllers, lines, or notify machine manufacturers of need for repair. As required, setup, and teardown rigging. Tear down machines, equipment, apparatus, or other items to make to adjust or repairs and replace worn or defective parts, components, bearings, valves, liners, and such.
  • Reassemble and adjust for proper operation. Correct ordinary troubles on floor and perform work with a minimum of delay on interference to production.
  • Clean and change various filters. Maintain, replace, and install piping, fittings, valves, gauges, controls for high/low pressure hydraulic, air, stream systems, and other lines, electrical controls, switches, and relays.
  • Perform routine bushing, bracket, shaft, pin, guard and other non-complex part or component fabrication or repair.
  • Conduct required building maintenance including minor carpentry and painting repairs.
  • Assist in occasional facility and grounds snow removal and maintenance.
  • Will refer and be able to interpret blue prints, schematics and machine drawings.
  • Will use various gages and calibration tooling when necessary.
Secondary Elements:
  • Follow prescribed safety precautions, established and department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. (LOTO, etc)
  • Available for emergency call-in as necessary

Required Skills:

  • The ability to read and write English.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Vocational School training preferred.
  • Machine Repair Experience.
    • Mechanical and hydraulic competence required
    • Familiarity with electrical schematics and troubleshooting preferred
  • Forklift driving experience required

Experience & Education:

  • Years of Experience 3-5

Skills & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Attention to detail and process oriented.
  • Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials, and questionable conditions to supervisor.
  • Diligent and attentive in setting up or operating machine where carelessness could cause injury.
