MECHANICAL SPECIALIST (HVAC)

The Mechanical Specialist (HVAC) at SpaceX works in a fast-paced environment, where the extraordinary becomes the everyday. This role will be working side by side with the entire team that is responsible for elevators, cranes, industrial doors, heating, ventilation and air conditioning operations. This will involve leading and contributing to improvement and reliability initiatives of our building automation systems, as well as operational and design feedback to engineering teams for maintaining and improving all critical building automation systems at our Vandenberg launch facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with technicians, internal teams, and vendors to prioritize, plan, and schedule maintenance and repairs for facility mechanical systems that support critical facility systems including industrial doors, elevators, cranes, hoist ways, air compressors, air dryers and other mechanical equipment
  • Inspect and troubleshoot critical facility systems (cranes, elevators, compressed air, and mega doors)
  • Manage system upgrades/repairs including managing contractors, schedules, and budgets
  • Source replacement parts and liaise with vendors
  • Build reports and present information on equipment maintenance statuses for all critical facilities as required for internal and external customers
  • Collaborate with engineering and managers to maintain systems in peak operating condition
  • Collaborate with engineering and managers to develop/update detailed work instructions for equipment maintenance
  • Develop scope for outside vendor work, procure vendor bids and manage vendors providing services
  • Execute processes site-wide to increase reliability developments
  • Ensure the team follows all regulations and appropriate SpaceX procedures including quality policies, safety policies, and other governing standards
Job Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2+ years of experience with industrial maintenance
  • 2+ years of experience with HVAC, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical and control systems

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 1+ years of professional work experience as a technician in the aerospace, industrial maintenance, or facility maintenance industry
  • Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office suite and report writing skills
  • Detail oriented, organized, and demonstrates a high sense of urgency
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and regulations
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems maintenance
  • Knowledge of parametric and industrial control systems
  • Knowledge in the following areas: crane systems, HVAC, electrical safety, pneumatic principles, rotating machinery
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFD)
  • Basic understanding of the theory of operation for refrigeration, motors, and mechanics
  • Operational knowledge of various hand tools and power tools, including multi-meters
  • Knowledge of clean room standards and classifications including standard ISO 14644
  • Understanding and familiarity with building automation systems (Metasys preferred)
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy equipment with the use of cranes, forklifts, or similar equipment

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Vandenberg
  • Ability to perform job duties that require kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small opening and climbing hand over hand, lifting 35 lbs., and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights
  • Willing to work extended hours and weekends, as needed
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain, etc.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Facilities Mechanical Specialist/Level 1: $33.00 - $41.75/hour
Facilities Mechanical Specialist/Level 2: $37.50 - $47.25/hour
Facilities Mechanical Specialist/Level 3: $41.75 - $52.75/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
