Job Description SummaryThe Staff Mechanical Engineer will report to the advanced mechanical design manager and be responsible for the mechanical design, manufacture, and delivery of hardware used in the development testing of the next generation of military jet engines. Engineers are sought to work on many different engine components such as the fan, compressor, combustor, turbine, and frames.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conceptual or theoretical activities related to the principles of engineering for the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Work with a closely integrated team of engineers and scientists to design the next generation of jet engine turbomachinery.
  • Work closely with internal and external manufacturing organizations to deliver hardware for rig, core, and full engine testing.
  • Develop and implement plans to ensure that contract requirements are fulfilled.
  • Lead efforts to solve both technical and schedule related problems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other personnel.
  • Present work to subject matter experts and program leaders at technical reviews.
  • Participate in technical reviews as a reviewer.
  • Ensure work is thoroughly documented.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance

Desired Characteristics

  • Masters degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in a mechanical design engineering position.
  • Highly motivated, passionate, and exceptional communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve technical design challenges with sound documentation, planning, and program management skills.
  • Experience with finite element analysis software such as ANSYS Classic, ANSYS Workbench, and 3D modelling software such as NX Unigraphics.
  • Programming experience with languages such as Python.
  • Experience with structural component design.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Desire to lead portfolio of projects
  • Jet engine design familiarity.
  • Passionate, can-do, hands-on approach.
  • Ability to guide and influence others.
  • Operational experience working in and managing complex, distributed teams.
  • Familiarity with GE design practices, processes, and products
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous design challenges/scenarios.
  • Systems level thinking in a teaming environment
  • Holds an existing US Government Security Clearance.
