Job Description SummaryThe Advanced Product Development section is responsible for the design, integration, testing, and support of advanced technologies for new and derivative engine concepts. Technology focus areas include military inlet & exhaust systems, integrated propulsion power & thermal management systems, advanced material systems, and other breakthrough component and system technologies to support the future of military flight.

In this role, the Staff Engineer will be part of an Integrated Product Team focused on New Product Introduction in Military Engineering as a Cost Account Manager (CAM). This role will share in the responsibility for guiding the technical design and execution of a new military product design with an emphasis on program management within the Earned Value Management (EVM) framework. This role will interact daily with a multidisciplinary team of engineers including Mechanical, Aerodynamics, Heat Transfer, Material Sciences, and Engine Systems. The Staff Engineer CAM will be focused on aligning technical and programmatic oversight to enable the team to push the boundaries of what is possible with the latest technologies and materials developed at GE Aerospace while protecting cost & schedule. This role requires significant collaboration both within the Product Team and across the product line, with high levels of operational judgment & ownership for key program and Customer metrics.

Due to security requirements this position requires a full-time in the office schedule.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Working with the Systems teams and Customers to keep consistency between the Integrated Product Team and the other design teams.
  • Collaboration with Systems team:
    •    Ensuring the team has the inputs needed to complete analyses.
    •    Coordinating information flow between the Systems and design teams.
    •    Tracking design efforts: hand-ins and milestones:
    •    Driving design milestones for DDR.
    •    Driving component and system test assessments.
  • Acting as EVM CAM for the Integrated Product Team: collecting status, tracking spend, reporting to Systems and Customers.
  • Developing ROMs and Proposal input as necessary for program planning/management.
  • Developing specialized knowledge in the disciplines of hot structures design and program management. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability and willingness to obtain active US Government Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering (or a similar discipline focused on mechanical or aerothermal design) from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering position.

Desired Characteristics

  • Active US Government Security Clearance
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics OR in Business Administration from an accredited university or college
  • 7+ years experience in design engineering
  • Gas turbine engine exhaust and/or hot structures design experience
  • Hardware ownership experience
  • Material Review Board (MRB) certification
  • Experience with engine/aircraft maintainability and reliability
  • Experience with design quality assurance
  • Demonstrated success Mentoring less-experienced colleagues to develop technical acumen and leadership
  • Experience working with DoD customer and processes
  • Experience working in DoD EVM projects
  • Strong track record of ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
