23380 GROUND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT MECHANIC The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic diagnoses malfunctions and repairs Ground Support Equipment (GSE), advises and trains lower grade workers on diagnosis and repair of less complex repair/maintenance problems, inspects and approves completed maintenance actions, solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical publications; uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, and analyzes, diagnosis, and repairs GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools.

Task Requirements:

  • Performs duties as Support Equipment Mechanic in support of Customs Border Protection (CBP) P-3 aircraft maintenance.
  • Maintains external fuel and grounding systems.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE.
  • Inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.
  • Services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air.
  • Diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical publications.
  • Disassembles and assembles malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.
  • Removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls GSE components and accessories.
  • Stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications.
  • Stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
  • Prepares GSE for storage and mobility deployment.
  • Operates, cleans, inspects, and services GSE towing vehicles.
  • Maintains and updates paper and electronic equipment records, provides dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations.
  • Use provided safety equipment when working with hazardous materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness of your assigned work area.
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.
  • Must comply with established General and Industrial Safety Rules and Regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment.
  • May be required to perform simple computer input functions.
  • Assist when directed to ensure safety, security and preservation of Government owned and Company owned equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Out of country travel may be required for this position. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and background servicing P-3 aircraft support equipment.
  • Familiarity with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) or equivalent.
  • Associates or higher degree in related field. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years’ additional education and/or related experience.
  • Experience in automatic transmission, hydrostatic and final drive system repair.
  • Experience with Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems repair.
  • Experience tire/wheel maintenance procedures, multiple type buildup, storage and disposal.
  • Strong electrical skills and experience in AC and DC system troubleshooting and repair/rework
  • Must possess valid state drivers license.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, holidays, and weekends and support on call status for 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days a year.
  • A current U.S. passport, accept period time away from primary work location and comply with mobility requirements.
  • Ability to obtain CBP Secret clearance

Compensation

$41.34/hour 

Other Compensation

Employees that waive medical insurance, receive an opt-out payment of $2.00 per hour paid to a maximum of 40 hours per week.

Employees are able to enroll in KAI’s 401k plan.  Employees accrue 3.07 hours of vacation and 2.15 hours of personal paid time per pay period. KAI union employees working for at CBP have 10 paid holidays. 

Employment is contingent on (a) your ability to provide appropriate proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States; (b) your references and any background check being satisfactory to the Company; (c) you successfully passing a pre-employment drug test; and (d) your ability to get a required clearance by your effective start date, if needed; and (e) KAI commencing performance on this contract.
