Job Description The Business Area Operations Director (BAOD) will serve as the overall production leader for BAE’s Electronic Systems Sector’s Countermeasure & Electromagnetic Attack Solutions (CEMA) business area. The CEMA business area provides next-generation threat detection and countermeasure solutions to provide unparalleled electronic warfare capabilities to enhance mission survivability. The CEMA Operations team consists of 570 employees spanning multiple product lines, facilities, geographies, technologies, and cost account segments. This role is the business-facing leader of the Operations organization and a key strategic contributor to the business area, including the long-term planning process. This role will also be responsible for delivering world-class manufacturing with exceptional product quality at target cost for their production facilities.
This role will report directly to the Vice President, Operations of Electronic Systems. The location for this role is Austin, TX. This position is a hybrid role which involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.
Primary Responsibilities:
As a key contributor to both the CEMA business area and ES sector Operations leadership teams, be accountable for efficient and effective program and production execution and to achieve business objectives, customer commitments, and growth expectations. Analyze performance measures and take corrective action as necessary. This role is also accountable to meet SQDC objectives for their area of responsibility.
Actively partner with other leadership team members to set strategic direction and drive world class production execution, innovative and consistent manufacturing strategies, and a best for the enterprise service delivery approach across the Sector.
Establish and deliver on financial commitments at the business area level and integrate with the Sector Operations team to meet overall financial objectives. Establish and meet functional budget requirements, consistently delivering predictable financial results, and partner with Finance to monitor and control investment spend.
Accurately identify and convert demand signals as driven by the business area into resource requirements for Sector production teams, ensuring adequate resourcing to meet plans and that the necessary support and services from other functional organizations are received in order to achieve objectives. Effectively manage utilization of people and equipment. Plan, forecast, and take action to hire necessary talent.
Lead CEMA’s five-year business planning process for the Operations function, identifying growth strategies, investment requirements, operational improvements, and staffing plans. Understand and shape the long-term strategic objectives of the business area, and translate those objectives into short and long term actions within the production environment and supply base. This role is also the primary Operations leader for major business processes including quarterly business reviews, corrective action and supplier review boards, and program reviews.
Lead the Operations elements of the business area’s growth strategy consistent with the integrated business plan. Serve as signature authority for approval of bids to customers and enable the team to successfully capture all resource requirements for the execution of programs. Execute to keep programs sold and to capture the addressable market in a highly competitive landscape.
Measure and regularly report out on strategies, plans, activities, and results to senior leadership.
Demonstrate thought leadership in the mission and market space by staying actively engaged with our key external stakeholders. Cultivate relationships with the customer and supplier community in support of current programs and future growth opportunities.
Demonstrate highly visible leadership to all levels of the Operations function, with excellent affinity to the production floor. Lead by example, fostering innovative problem solving, performance excellence, and continuous improvement to deliver affordable, effective, and dependable solutions.
