Director Helicopters within Airbus Public Affairs Berlin (d/f/m)

We are regularly asked for our views by governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, business associations and civil society. Our political activities are managed by our Public Affairs team in accordance with our company-wide compliance principles and procedures. 

In Germany, our team members are based in Berlin, close to the government and policymakers. They support government and institutional engagement of all 3 Airbus

divisions (Airbus Commercial, Airbus Defence & Space, Airbus Helicopters).

The successful applicant will be responsible for developing political and advocacy strategies to advance Airbus Helicopters interests and to advise and support its top level management regarding communication with policymakers.

Your tasks and responsibilities

The successful applicant will report to the Senior Vice President Head of Public Affairs Germany.

The target setting process for this position will be managed by the Head of Public Affairs Germany, in alignment with the CEO Airbus Helicopters Germany GmbH.

  • Monitor and analyse political and legislative developments and assess the possible impact on Airbus Helicopters’ business and reputation in Germany, providing insight and counsel in key business planning decisions.

  • Direct, devise and execute strategic plans to leverage or mitigate upcoming changes and trends. Promote business goals through thought leadership and structured advocacy.

  • Enhance visibility and give Airbus Helicopters a prominent voice with policy makers.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key policy stakeholders to advance Airbus Helicopters’ business goals and further develop Airbus Helicopters reputation as a credible and respected provider of the most efficient helicopter solutions for German customers.

  • Lead advocacy outreach to relevant politicians and parliamentary groups, being the initial face of Airbus Helicopters with these individuals.

  • Lead the response to relevant government consultations on behalf of the business to help articulate and implement policy positions.

  • Lead, manage and coordinate Airbus Helicopters’ engagement with relevant trade associations. Actively participate in relevant groups.

Desired skills and qualifications
  • You are educated to a Master Degree in Law, Politics, History, Arts, Media or similar field of study

  • You are an expert in the field with at least 10-15 years of relevant experience, who has extensive experience of working in politics/Government Relations at German national level

  • You have a proven track record of implementing advocacy strategies to shape a policy environment in pursuit of organisational goals

  • You are at ease in building strong business relationships with a network of senior politicians and policymakers. Established relationships with external stakeholders would be an advantage

  • You maintain strict compliance with all applicable policies and laws, especially those related to interactions with government officials

  • You have the thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work

  • You have an in -depth understanding of public procurement processes and procedures in Germany

  • You have a deep knowledge of the issues facing the Defence and/or Helicopters industry and a grasp of its regulatory environment

  • You are highly motivated and able to work independently and in a team

  • You have the ability to prioritise work under pressure and deliver to agreed deadlines

  • You are confident in explaining complex policy issues to internal audiences to strengthen understanding and engagement across the organisation

  • You are a confident public speaker, able to engage a room of individuals with different perspectives and position a potentially controversial argument

  • You are fluent in German and English and have proven excellent writing skills in both languages, with the ability to articulate messages clearly and concisely in an engaging style perspective.
