Role Summary

The Director Learning & Development sets the long-term strategy and oversees the financial performance of learning and development at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders to translate business and people priorities into learning and development plans, ensuring our workforce has the knowledge, skills and abilities, and leadership capabilities required to deliver on our organizational strategy.

Key Duties

  • Sets the long-term, organization-wide strategy for learning and development in consultation with executive leadership to support administering the Leader Academy and professional and executive development programs.

  • Establishes strategic goals and direction for the learning team to deliver remarkable learning experiences and journeys.

  • Supports administration and execution of the talent management strategy through Performance Management, Succession Planning and Internal Mobility programs to ensure a well-qualified and diverse talent pool for key positions.

  • Fosters relationships with key stakeholders including enterprise leaders of learning in other workgroups, HR leadership, HR business partners, DEI and business unit leaders to shape and inform the design and development of programs.

  • Owns the development and execution of an enterprise measurement strategy to evaluate the effectiveness and ROI of our learning and talent management programs to ensure alignment of solutions with business goals and culture (values and purpose).

  • Ensures leadership development programs are benchmarked and continuously improved against best practices and trends.

  • Responsible for the strategic positioning, usage and center of excellence for the Learning Management System (LMS) and Talent Management System (TMS).

  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent and succession planning across teams and disciplines.

  • Shapes culture of the team through action, presence and reinforcement of behavior.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 8 years of progressive relevant experience in strategic execution, program design and implementation, leadership development, talent management, human resources or related area.

  • 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in instructional design, educational technology, organization design, talent management, organizational psychology, human resources or related discipline, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Proven ability to effectively collaborate, influence and build trusted partnerships at all levels up to executives, with evidence of driving alignment across teams to achieve shared outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to think conceptually, develop strategies and drive execution to achieve outcomes in the best interest of the company.

  • Ability to work in an agile and iterative way in a fast paced and collaborative environment.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • MBA or Master of Science in organizational development or a related discipline.

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) certificate.

  • Certified Change Management Professional.

  • Organizational Development Certified Consultant.

  • Knowledge and application of adult learning theory, behavioral science and the neuroscience of learning.

Salary Range

$151,700 - $250,300 / year

Salary Details

The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
