Job description

This role leads the development, implementation, management and monitoring of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) programs, policies, and procedures for the work force, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, local and customer EH&S requirements. Integrates knowledge of current industry technologies with broad understanding of client requirements which necessitates a current working knowledge of EH&S regulations and their business impact. Serves an essential role in leading, partnering and supporting business driven technical and strategic initiatives. Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental safety & health regulations and company policy. Leads compliance with regulatory standards and all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory programs, evaluates and prepares contracts for properly licenses hazardous waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling. Organizes and equips spill-control and storm water teams, writes, and updates environmental permits. Coordinates the monitoring of all workplace environments by analyzing work operations and processes, materials, equipment, and work practices; measures the magnitude of exposure to environmental hazards.

The EH&S Manager will work with third party consultants and employees at all levels of the organization. The successful candidate will interface with EH&S resources at the various Daher locations world-wide to drive standardization of EH&S, physical security and facilities practices and protocols. The role is subject to travel at our various locations and will report to the General Manager of Operations at our Stuart, FL. facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage EH&S Compliance audit program to ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Requirements.

  • Lead development of strategic EH&S Planning. Work with plant management and staff to implement and execute plan.

  • Develop and implement consistent policies and procedures for EH&S. Identify opportunities for standardization across Daher.

  • Review, lead and/or participate in the investigation of employee concerns, EH&S Incidents, and Near Misses, along with corrective action development, implementation, and follow-up.

  • Responsible for creating, maintaining, and reporting all monthly EH&S metrics to facility, division, and corporate EH&S management (TRIR, DART, Near Miss)

  • Responsible for Air Quality Control at all the sites.

  • Support all site EH&S hiring positions as needed.

  • Support Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiative.

  • Ensure EH&S reviews are integrated into the Management of Change process and the Lean efforts.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of existing EH&S programs; determine the need for any additional programs; develop and implement additional programs as needed or dictated by division and corporate management.

  • Track and audit programs for compliance with all state, city, and federal regulations to include inspections/audits and data for environmental reports, along with timely report submittal (Form R, air emissions reports, etc.).

  • Develop and conduct effective EH&S training programs to ensure compliance with regulations, including but not limited to training for new employees, and annual training for existing employees.

  • Conduct risk assessments on facility activities using preferred risk assessment methods/hazard analysis tools; develop corrective action based on regulatory information, industry best practices, facility resources and requirements.

  • Assess physical security and plant access standards at sites, including badging/identification, visitor processing, exterior fencing requirements, use of security and surveillance, etc.

  • Assess facilities’ emergency readiness, including developing standard requirements for all locations including proper signage, occupancy reports, emergency response plans, business continuity plans, etc.

  • Monitor environmental compliance for facility wastewater, storm water management, spill prevention, control and countermeasure and other environmental related issues.

  • Manage hazardous waste, universal waste and regulated waste programs for compliance including waste inventories, waste haul oversight and manifest tracking and filing.

  • Develop technical documents including EH&S procedures, programs, guidance, and training documents.

  • Evaluate existing EH&S programs to ensure compliance with existing policy, standards, and regulations.

  • Manage emergency response activities including the Site Emergency Plan, employee training, practice drills, fire-alarm testing, and evacuation/shelter activities

  • National and international travel requirement: 5 (Europe, Mexico, Canada)

Profile and other information related to the position

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Physical Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Safety Management, Industrial Hygienist, Business Management or related field;

  • ES&H-related Certifications preferred; Registered Environmental Manager (REM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM);

  • 10&43; years EH&S experience;

  • Knowledge and experience developing and implementing occupational safety, industrial health and environmental programs;

  • Thorough knowledge of EH&S regulator standards and compliance;

  • Ability to assemble and analyze safety incident data and routinely provide statistical information as requested in support of corporate reporting requirements;

  • Strong interpersonal skills, must be able to work with employees, management and regulators;

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to read, write and understand the English language;

  • Must be able to work and lead a team effectively, maintain composure and calm nature during extreme and stressful situations;

  • Must be able to provide guidance to the site EH&S leads.

Additional Consideration Given to Those With:

  • Exposure to quality systems,

  • EH&S auditing experience in aerospace manufacturing environment

  • Experience with a continuous process discipline such as Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
