Job Description SummaryThis role is for a front line leader (leader of individual contributors) in the Production Technologies organization reporting to an Engineering Executive Section Leader. In this role, the Sub-Section Manager (SSM) will be responsible for building and leading a team of engineers with various levels of experience to own all engineering tasks associated with the on-going production of high pressure turbine airfoils. Example tasks for the team are: Producibility redesigns, Qualification of new vendors and processes, identifying and improving safety and quality issues in the supply chain, identifying and leading strategic engineering-manufacturing initiatives to prepare the supply chain for next generation products.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manages a 10+ person team of professional, lead professional, and senior professional engineers as well as purchased services. Requires specialized knowledge within the function.
  • Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influencing policy formulation.
  • Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
  • Work with Peer managers in the TAVS PT section to create and execute a holistic strategy for improving the health of the commodity.
  • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
  • May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely to leadership within Engineering, Sourcing, and Supply Chain divisions and foster a relationship of mutual trust and respect.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, candor, and proactive planning & execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Engineering degree from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant engineering role.

Desired Characteristics

  • 7 years of experience in a relevant engineering role. Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • Experience leading global teams including direct reports inside and outside the US.

  • Experience in manufacturing and design of Turbine Airfoils.

  • Experience leading remote employees and influencing indirect reports.

  • Demonstrated collaboration across functions and organizations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
