Job Summary

The Manager, Airport Services Safety is responsible for documenting, tracking and mitigating Safety issues within the Airport Services division. The Manager of Airport Services Safety leverages data and works closely with Airport Services leadership teams to highlight systemic trends and drive corrective actions across stations and system level as needed.

 

  • Lead a Safety matrix team and leverage data to direct team members to monitor station/regional trends, conduct station observations and audits, conduct Safety Risk Evaluations (SREs), and execute post-incident safety investigations in order to provide mitigation plans.
  • Work closely with Station Trainers and Compliance Auditing team to ensure quality non-biased audits are conducted and submitted for corporate review on a regular basis.
  • Conduct investigations when safety infractions occur; identify root causes and corrective actions to reduce the risk of any future instances.
  • Create safety bulletins as necessary based on system trends and mitigation practices.
  • Work closely with the Airport Services training department to address and eliminate unsafe practices identified in Spirit’s operation through safety infractions.
  • Lead monthly Safety Action Meetings (SAM) outlining safety trends, infractions, hazards, and corrective actions to improve safety across the Airport Services division.
  • Ensure safety hazards are addressed before rolling out new systems or procedures system wide.
  • Monitor safety metrics in alignment with new systems and procedures to ensure no unintended consequences result from introducing new programs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Station Leaders and Senior Leadership to build partnership and camaraderie amongst the teams.
  • Conduct Safety Risk Evaluations (SREs) as needed in the field.
  • Analyze data and performance metrics and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Assist Spirit station GMs with implementation and oversight of corrective actions post-investigation when infractions occur.
  • Communicate and educate team members and business partners with concern to Spirit’s safety protocols and programs.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate (e.g., emergencies change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments).

Qualifications

Education

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Safety, Compliance, Airport Operations

 

Experience

1-3 years in Safety, Compliance, Airport Operations

 

Skills

  • Operations Management:  Solid understanding of airline operations with a special emphasis on the dynamics, structure and challenges associated with station operations, leading to an ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with station personnel.
  • People Management:  Ability to lead, influence and motivate teams of people that do not report to this position, causing them to deliver and execute on the airline’s cleaning programs with the highest levels of performance.
  • Financial Management:  Solid experience in budgeting and economic management, leading to an ability to effectively manage to and within approved budgets. Ability to develop zero-based department budgets.
  • Planning and Organizing:  Accurately scopes out tasks and projects, sets goals, breaks down work into process steps, develops schedules and assigns resources. Uses resources effectively to obtain optimal results. Looks to the future, anticipates future needs and requirements, and acts early to ensure future needs are met.

  • Frequently stands, walks, sits, and uses eye/hand coordination, color definition. Must be able to lift seventy-five pounds consistently. Work under pressure while still maintaining near 100 accuracy. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Ability to work independently on multiple assignments
  • Highly approachable professional demeanor. In-depth knowledge of airport operations and other duties as assigned.
