SUMMARY:

The Lead NDT shall be responsible to the Chief Inspector for the overall operation of the NDT Inspection Department. The Lead NDT shall have final authority in the NDT acceptance of airframes, engines, propellers, appliances and the component parts thereof.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist, supervise and direct all personnel assigned to the NDT department.
  • Procurement of equipment / instrumentation required for the performance of NDT inspections.
  • Ensure that NDT equipment / instrumentation required to perform NDT inspection is correct for the inspection performed or an approved equivalent.
  • Provide training and certification of NDT inspection personnel in accordance with RSQCM 4.2.
  • Interpret applicable codes, regulations, standards, and specifications, determine NDT method to be used, develop and approve written instructions for accomplishment of NDT inspections when no procedure exists.
  • Ascertain that NDT inspections are properly performed on all completed work and that inspection records, reports and forms used by the Repair Station are properly executed prior to releasing the product for return to service.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Chief Inspector.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:        Good working knowledge of all aircraft job tasks, thorough understanding of all applicable FARs and company policies and procedures, thorough knowledge of all aircraft manuals, nondestructive testing manuals and related materials.  Thorough knowledge of all ST Aerospace Mobile and customer paperwork and a thorough knowledge of blueprint and drawing instructions.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Climate controlled environment as well as industrial non-climate controlled environment.

 

SUPERVISION:  Performs duties according to his or her own judgment, requesting assistance only when necessary.

 

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS: A strong level of interpersonal skill required to maintain an effective relationship with various departments, Inspectors, co-workers, Supervision and the Customer.

 

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENTRequires easy mobility around various sections of aircraft. Requires mental skills and quickness with the ability to cope with stress and intense effort or exertion usually caused by long working hours.  Working environment requires standing 90 of the work day on hard surfaces.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs and to report to work regularly.     

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma / GED or equivalent.
  • Airframe and Powerplant license.
  • Classroom training hours in applicable NDT method certifications held, meeting or exceeding the requirements of NAS-410 or ATA Specification 105.

 

EXPERIENCE: 5 years aircraft inspection experience (QC or NDT Inspection experience)
