Job overview and responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to deliver disruptive value as Senior Manager of the Generative AI CoE team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the strategic direction, oversee research and development activities, and drive innovation in the field of generative artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing our organizations capabilities and impact in generative AI technologies. Key responsibilities in this role will include (1) guiding the feasibility and development of generative AI use-cases in a consultative capacity across the entire organization (2) leading execution of a subset of complex GenAI use cases (3) overseeing and contributing towards assetization of Gen AI resources (4) scaling innovation in the field of generative AI by driving cutting-edge research and empowering the wider organization through education and outreach.

  • Formulating and executing a comprehensive intake process for the Generative AI Center of Excellence
  • Lead the execution and ongoing support of high priority, complex GenAI use cases including managing staffing across direct reports, external resourcing, and satellite teams for delivery
  • Design and stand up a process for long term GenAI use case and model maintenance and support
  • Maintaining close engagement with business leaders and Digital Technology partners across all project phases, fostering high-level relationships
  • Recruiting and mentoring elite talent specifically for generative AI, promoting a progressive culture of rapid innovation within the COE
  • Continuously updating knowledge on ML/AI research, particularly generative AI developments, to keep the COE at the forefront of innovation
  • Advocating for and effectively educating the organization on cutting-edge generative AI approaches derived from scientific research, enhancing the practical applications of AI at United Airlines

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Economics
  • 9+ years of relevant experience
  • 7+ years in Data science and Machine learning roles
  • Mastery in advanced LLMs (e.g., GPT-3.5, GPT-4, Claude, Falcon, Vicuna) and Gen AI models for content creation, NLP, and Computer Vision including GANs and Diffusion models
  • Proficient in prompt engineering, Langchain, LlamaIndex, and understanding of language models and transformers for dynamic LLM interactions
  • Solid experience with ML algorithms, NLP techniques, deep learning architectures, and computer vision applications
  • Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and SQL for high-performance, scalable coding
  • Competence in vector databases and MLOps practices for AI model efficiency and lifecycle management
  • Deep familiarity with AWS/Microsoft Azure services for robust AI deployment and adept at managing AI models in production environments, including designing control and sandboxing systems for AI research
  • Analytical skills to define metrics for evaluating AI solutions and problem-solving, coupled with effective communication and collaboration abilities across organizational levels
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Economics
  • Prior experience leading and developing high performing teams with an emphasis on execution and through-put
  • Innovative problem-solving ability in a matrix organization, capable of delivering high-quality AI solutions amidst ambiguity
  • Familiarity with Explainable AI principles to ensure transparency and understandability of AI models
  • Experience in engineering high-performance, large-scale ML systems that demonstrate direct impact
  • Profound hands-on experience in developing scalable backend platforms and engineering APIs
  • Practical experience in MLOps, including a comprehensive understanding of the CI/CD process for efficient AI model development and deployment
