Responsibilities

The VP, Technical Operations ensures that facilities/personnel/equipment and business partners are in place to provide serviceable and airworthy aircraft to the airline on time and on budget, that all the work is performed in accordance with regulations, and that safety of personnel and the flying public is always our top priority. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the VP of Technical Operations will play a critical role in strategic decision-making and direct supervision of Spirit’s technical operations. We’re seeking an experienced VP of Technical Operations to join our highly skilled teamAs an ideal candidate, you have proven senior airline management experience in a highly dynamic setting. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Safety:  
  • Ensure a safe working environment for employees, through provision of appropriate tooling, equipment, education and oversight. Reduce operational events through maintenance program / configuration changes or procedural changes and training.  
  • Regulatory Compliance:  
  • Maintain an open working relationship with the FAA and be responsive to the Administrator’s concerns. Provide documentation to front line staff that facilitates compliance with regulations and consistency of execution. Ensure a culture of compliance at all times.  
  • Operational Performance:  
  • Drive the company to achieve and surpass operational consistency, profitability, cash flow and business goals and objectives 
  • Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the division. 
  • Spearheads the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.  
  • Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all technical operations processes, internal and external.  
  • On-Time Performance:  
  • Manage expedited return of out of service aircraft. Reduce delays through changes to maintenance program and aircraft configuration.  
  • Financial Performance:  
  • Manage expenditures against budget. Budgeting for multiple projects, including monitoring and controlling costs. Execute capital plan.  
  • Effectively Leading and Growing Cross-Departmental Teamwork:  
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the Technical Operations organization.  
  • Oversees staffing and training qualification programs, develops individuals for future advancement, identifying, training and developing leaders within the company and setting them on a path for future growth 
  • Develop and communicate vision for the division, with clear expectations for strategic and tactical execution. Develop productive relationships with peer division heads to remove barriers to cross-functional initiative.  
  • Creating and Instilling a Culture of Team Member Trust and Commitment 
  • Grow team buy-in to company objectives and transform Spirit into an employer of choice.  
  • Growing the Network with Stability:  
  • Manage a rapidly expanding technical operation organization through organic same-city growth and new station openings.  
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate (e.g., emergencies change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments). 

Qualifications

  • Valid U.S. drivers license and valid passport  
  • Bachelor’s Degree required 
  • FAA Airframe (A) and Powerplant (B) license preferred.  
  • 7+ years of experience building, managing, and developing high-performing teams.  
  • Experience leading, managing, and motivating a large organization with numerous and disparate departments.  
  • Strong financial background and analytical experience. Extensive experience in an aggressive cost containment environment.  
  • Skilled at leveraging a growth environment to benefit cost productivity. Experience at managing government agencies, with appropriate political sensitivity and working collaboratively to develop productive relationships.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external guests.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills.  
  • Can work with a multicultural organization.
