Space Systems Flight SW Architect

A vacancy for a Flight SW Architect has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Madrid (Getafe). The successful applicants will join the Payload Digital Electronics Engineering Department (TESOF5).

The Flight SW Architect will contribute to developing intelligent systems for satellite platforms and payloads, for applications including Telecommunications, Earth Observation, Science and Navigation. He/she will work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team and will contribute to the on-cost, on-time and on-quality product delivery to customer.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Under the coordination of the System Engineering Manager, manage all technical aspects related to the following areas:
  • Flight SW embedded in on-board computers and control units
  • System and unit level operational concept and FDIR concept
• Derive flight SW requirements from system level requirements, elaborate and maintain flight SW technical requirement specifications, either as a standalone development or combined with a flight HW unit development.
• Define flight SW architectural design, development, integration & testing.
• Define flight SW verification and validation strategy, SW maintenance strategy and SW Validation and Maintenance Facilities, prepare system test specifications, and maintain the verification control documentation.
• Manage technical details related to flight SW performance, interfaces, criticality, budgets, unit/system TM/TC, PUS services, data link protocols, operational modes, commandability and observability, FDIR, etc.
• Build the TM/TC database and follow-up related activities.
• Support the Procurement Team in performing the technical follow-up of the subcontracted flight SW development, in the assessment of technical risks and RFDs, and in change management.
• Support the AIT Team in the definition and technical follow-up of the required test systems, in the preparation of system integration and test activities, and in the review of test reports.
• Support the Quality Team in the investigation of SW problems and non-conformances, providing technical support in NRBs.
• Elaborate technical documentation, deliver technical presentations, and contribute to technical proposals.
• Support the project technical reviews, and conduct and lead the technical reviews to flight SW suppliers.
• Work in close collaboration with other engineering disciplines (e.g. electrical and control, thermal control, data handling, AOCS) involved in the system development throughout the whole lifecycle.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

• Educated to degree level in the related Engineering fields
• Excellent technical written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent understanding of computer architecture
• Proven experience required in:
  • Flight SW projects (ECSS normative)
  • SW requirements management
  • SW coding (C/C&43;&43;), integration and debugging
  • Application SW, boot SW, low-level drivers development
  • Embedded systems with microprocessors and FPGAs
  • Use of ground support systems for testing or simulation
  • Subcontractor technical management
• Team player, highly motivated, self-starter with a positive attitude
• English advanced level
• Spanish advanced level
• Will be appreciated:
  • Experience in RTOS (e.g. RTEMS) use or development
  • Experience in requirements management with DOORS
