Head of Technical Operations

Your role

The Head of Technical Operations (TechOps) oversees both the Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) team and the Technical Support Team, two operationally critical teams who provide 24/7 support for the Aer Lingus Ireland and UK operations. The Head of Technical Operations (TechOps) is a senior leadership role which will report into the Director of Engineering in Aer Lingus and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of maintenance control and technical support operations. Playing a crucial role in ensuring fleet airworthiness and operational availability, optimizing maintenance resources for aircraft readiness and dispatch reliability, safety, and driving continuous improvement & technological innovation to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the TechOps teams (20 engineers), aligning technical operations with organisational KPI’s and goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. Driving increased performance for OTP, Technical dispatch reliability, aircraft readiness and AOG recovery.
  • Direct the Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) team, responsible for technical delivery of the flight schedule, coordinating and overseeing AOG recovery including maintenance prioritisation, maintenance planning for 1st wave availability, and execution of associated maintenance activities. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and manufacturers recommendations while minimizing aircraft downtime and maximising aircraft availability.
  • Direct the Technical Support Team, responsible for providing technical expertise and support to maintenance teams by providing AOG and complex fault support, troubleshooting recommendations, maintenance data reviews, liaising with OEM/Part 21 organisations, component serviceability assessments and out of hours Engineering activities.
  • Monitor and analyse aircraft readiness and OTP data, identifying trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement, and implementing corrective actions to optimize aircraft readiness, utilisation, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external line maintenance providers, ensuring prompt responsiveness for AOG events, scheduled maintenance performance and technical delay reporting as per contractual obligations.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and trends in aircraft readiness and operational performance, identifying opportunities for technological innovation and process improvement to enhance operational efficiency, aircraft readiness, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction by way of improved OTP and TDR.
  • Lead and mentor the TechOps team, fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, continuous learning, and providing opportunities for skill development, career growth, and succession planning.

 

Your qualifications and key criteria

To be considered for the role of Head of Technical Operations, candidates must meet the following:

  • University degree in aviation maintenance, aerospace engineering, or a related field or an EASA Part 66 License.
  • Proven leadership experience (5 Years) in a senior role within aviation, preferably in an airline or MRO.
  • In-depth knowledge of aircraft systems, maintenance procedures, engineering principles, and regulatory requirements (Part-CAMO & Part-145), with a strong emphasis on safety and airworthiness standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data, identify root causes of maintenance issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior management, regulatory authorities, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software and systems for scheduling, tracking, and documenting aircraft maintenance activities.
  • Commitment to quality, reliability, and continuous improvement in aircraft maintenance and engineering, with a focus on achieving operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, with proven organisational skills.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and decision making skills.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • An enthusiastic team member with a positive attitude to work effectively in an ever-changing environment.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Eligible to live and work in Ireland without restriction (i.e. EU Passport Holder).
  • Hold a valid EU passport allowing unrestricted worldwide travel.
  • Hold a full clean driving licence.
  • Able to provide details of 2 verifiable references.
  • Prepared to complete a medical questionnaire and medical examination.
  • Able to pass a strict airport security vetting procedure which includes a 5-year background check* or be in possession of a current airside pass for the airport this position is based in Dublin.
