Mission:

Under general supervision, inspect, clean, dip wax pattern assemblies and maintain primary slurry tanks in accordance with quality standards. Ensure that documentation and parts are correctly matched.

Principle Accountabilities:

  1. Investment Primary Coater

Objective: Under general supervision, oversee and perform dip and stucco operations of wax patterns to produce shell molds. Inspect shell molds to ensure conformance to published specifications on technique cards approved by plant Quality Department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Follow established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment.
  • Under general supervision, mix slurries and dip patterns for the forming of shell molds; responsibility for slurry viscosity maintenance and data recording for optimum operation.
  • Perform visual (cracks, bridging, foreign material, etc.) and mechanical inspection of shell molds for strength; control correct drying time between coats and speed of drying.
  • Work is subject to final inspection and check.
  • Read, comprehend and have ready access to O.P.C. and Q.C.P. Manuals.
  • Build, mix and maintain slurry tanks and sand beds to obtain optimum dipping conditions.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of ceramic shell process and particularly all causes of casting defects which are investment caused or related.
  • Demonstrate good eye hand coordination.
  • Meet all production and quality standards.
  • Access main computer system to maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Work safely when lifting, use transport devises and get help on larger items to work area.
  • Verify all parameters on tech cards for number of coats, special handling, core packing, etc. for each specific lot.
  • Attach dip handles to wax pattern trees.
  • Clean parts to remove grease and dirt; etch parts and hang to dry.
  • Dip patterns into slurries and show ability and skill to drain, stucco, dry molds, and understand critical factors.
  • Wheel and shovel sand to the tanks.
  • Inspect wax patterns for defects.
  • Weigh and measure proportions of ceramics, binders, etc.
  • Load and operate machine to manufacture slurry.
  • Keep all Zahn Cups, dilution equipment, mixers, etc. clean and in optimum condition.
  • Assist in training lower skilled classifications as required.
  • Follow established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment.
  • Perform all work deemed necessary to meet Plant goals.

  1. Safety

Objective: To take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.

Additional Accountabilities:

  • Train less skilled personnel as assigned.
  • Perform related work of equal or lesser kill level as required

Essential Equipment, Vehicles, Tools and/or Machinery used:

  • A variety of pumping (air, electric, etc.) and mixing (Hand and powered) machines.
  • Lifting devices (Lift tables, Cranes, Fork Lift, etc.)
  • Various hand tools (Pliers, Wrench, Wax surfacing hand tools, Scrapers and Knives, Measuring devices, Clippers, Scissors, )

Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or training are included in considerations.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Able to precisely follow written recipes for slurry tanks, core material and all other mixtures necessary in area.
