The Technology Jr Associate invests in the future of Southwests People in their learning and growth in the year-long Technology Junior Associate Program. This role will work collaboratively with various workgroups in Technology and throughout the Company as they learn about the Technology Departments role in supporting the Business, embrace opportunities for upskilling and certifications, and learn sound principles of Leadership. Each week, this role receives 8 hours of time dedicated to upskilling, developing industry knowledge, and developing professionally. Theyll receive 32 hours of time each week of on-the-job training, mentoring, and opportunities to solve business solutions. The Technology Jr Associate is passionate about continuous learning and joining the innovative and high-performing Technology Department. Theyll have the opportunity to learn and grow in their expertise each day, own where their career with Heart takes them, and drive the future of Technology at Southwest Airlines.

  • Please know this posting is for multiple open JTAP positions across various Teams in Technology, including Customer & Commercial, Infrastructure, People & Finance, Technology Platforms, and Cybersecurity. These teams all contribute to important initiatives and are helping to shape the future of Technology at Southwest Airlines. Our Recruiting Team will provide additional Team and technology-specific details in the interview stage.

  • This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for training, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in a remote location, away from our Corporate Campus. Please note, while this is a remote position, there is a limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work. Those ineligible locations are: Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.

Job Summary

  • The Technology Junior Associate Program will allow Junior Associates the opportunity to apply their formal technology training in a professional setting while gaining additional skills, knowledge and experience
  • Will develop leadership and communication skills, professional development and continued technical training as they develop in their position
  • Will have a leader as well as a mentor to guide them as they begin their career in Technology
  • Should be eager to gain technical skills and immerse themselves in the Southwest Culture and their Southwest Airlines Team
  • Able to work in a hybrid work environment that may call for visits to Dallas, Texas at Headquarters occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Begin to analyze, design, develop program code, test, document, and implement functionally that is technically sound and well integrated into application systems in accordance with business and customer requirements and Technology methodologies and standards
  • Understands at a general level how technology platforms/architectures are applied to systems and automated business solutions
  • Will be responsible for Junior Associate Program requirements including continued training and development and mentorship along with demands of day-to-day responsibilities
  • Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee&39;s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of software development methodologies, practices, concepts, and technologies
  • Demonstrate programming aptitude and ability for logical and abstract thinking
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • With assistance, will start to facilitate and complete analysis, design, and programming of viable solutions to business problems according to user specifications
  • Able to work effectively in a strong collaborative and team oriented environment
  • Able to take on multiple assignments, whether administrative or project related, while maintaining a successful level of completion in all responsible work.
  • Able to prioritize effectively.
  • Able to develop, present and effectively communicate ideas and strategies to a variety of audiences.

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Completion of a formal Technology training program that includes coursework in programming languages (Java, HTML, CSS, SQL, AWS, CI/CD, Chrome Developer Tools, Cloud), cybersecurity, IT help desk, data, web development or other related technical studies

Experience

  • Required: Completion of a formalized technology training program

Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
  • Other Qualifications:
    • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
    • Limited travel with potential for increased/decreased travel based upon Technology Department needs
    • May require extended work hours per Leader&39;s request

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $63,000 per year to $70,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience**. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
