| Job Desc: |
Overview: • Determines and plans the sequence of machining operations to fully utilize the capacity and minimize the number of cuts and setups to obtain required finishes and tolerances; • Determines the proper number and type of heads, tracers and cutting tools to be used and the method of setting up to hold part warpage to a minimum. • Makes complete layout as required on parts involving compound angles, tapers and contours allowing sufficient stock for setup and clamping purposes. • Computes angular and linear dimensions as required. • Sets up completely and independently, various types of multiple head skin mills by selecting, mounting various specialized machine attachments for multi-purpose machining operations. • Adjust tilt head and/or bed for correct angle taper; positions, fastens or clamps part using vacuum, mechanical and improvised holding fixtures; installs, positions and aligns proper cam bars, attachments as required. • Determines and sets machine speeds, feeds and depth of cuts. • Works on highly variable and non-repetitive experimental and/or complex production parts to perform machining operations to exacting coordinated tolerances, where the nature and size of the parts requires ingenuity in devising unusual machining methods such as multiple head setups, adapting the cutting heads, tracers and related attachments to fully utilize all functions of the machine. • Works from blueprints, sketches, shop orders, manufacturing outlines another authorized documents. • Improvises tooling for holding and adapting parts to bed. • Grinds own tools as required. • Use shop mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
