JOB SUMMARY
Progressive Incorporated is an industry leader in the manufacture of large complex aerostructures. The CNC Machinist at Progressive is responsible for the conversion of raw materials to a finished milled product. Due to the size and complexity of parts, close tolerances, and the time required to manufacture a single part, the machinist has little room for error. The Machinist is responsible for all operations performed on the assigned work station, including work set-up, tooling, operations, and completion of required documentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS/OTHER FUNCTIONS
Essential functions include:
- Learn Progressive safety procedures and practice safe work operations at all times.
- Learn Progressive operational procedures and complying with all procedures to minimize errors.
- Adopt company values of Responsibility, Respect, Recognition, Resiliance.
- Report to work in a timely manner to start the assigned shift. Coordinate any absences required in advance and call your supervisor in a timely manner regarding any emergent situation resulting in unplanned absence from your assigned shift.
- Operation of crane and hoist to facilitate the set-up of large parts, to include safety inspection and replacement of parts as required, movement of parts across manufacturing floor, placement of parts on fixtures.
- Prepare part for machining as necessary, to include cleaning and hand-deburring of parts to ensure safe and effective operations.
- Set up for designated operation, including preparation of fixtures, placement of part, proper work holding, verification of tooling set-up, proper loading of tooling, and pre-machining operations.
- Monitor machine operations to include monitoring machining sequences consistent with programming, observing machine for proper functioning, and listening for irregular sounds that may be indication of developing problems. Respond immediately to developing situations to preserve machine and part integrity.
- Document completion of operation as required for traceability.
- Maintain a safe and lean work environment, including performing housekeeping duties.
Other duties may include:
- Contributing to organizational objectives through participation in collateral duties, such as Safety Committee.
- Other duties as assigned to accomplish company objectives.
< b> EQUIPMENT USED
Machines: Most machines are SNK, may be assigned to a Makino or Cincinnati Machine Controls: Most machines have FANUC controls, with the exception of Makino Controls on the Makino Machines.
< b> RESPONSIBILITIES
Communication Identification and communication of machining irregularities critical to successful production operations.

| Requirements: |
QUALIFICATIONS
Three to five years experience working in an aerospace machining environment with 3-axis or greater milling machines; 5-axis experience preferred. Machining experience with various aluminum alloys, steel and titanium is strongly desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
Knowledge of standard G-codes.Ability to complete all machine-related operations from set-up and preparations to breakdown of the set-up.Knowledge of standard shop safety practices.
ITAR Requirements:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical dexterity: Must possess both gross and fine motor skills required to complete set-up operations and operate controls.
Sitting/standing/walking around: Daily duties require sitting, standing, bending, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, operating and manipulating hand tools.
Vision: Must be able to, with or without accommodation, read information on a computer screen and observe machine operations in a range of 2 to 15 feet.
Hearing: Must be able to, with or without accommodation, use a phone.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Machinists work a 12 hour shift, beginning and ending at 6:00. New employees are assigned to the night shift and may move to the day shift based on seniority and position availability.Uniforms are available for shop employees.Machining operations results in coolant spray and slick floors. Machining noise present. Most work spaces are climate controlled. |
