Job Desc: Position Summary

Perform a variety of detailed, functional, and/or operational inspection in one or more of the following areas: complex mechanical and/or electrical aircraft systems, components, parts of production, modification, repair, or experimental aircraft in accordance with company procedures and FAA regulations. Primary Responsibilities

Mechanical Inspection

Inspect assemblies, joining of sub-assemblies into major structure, and complete aircraft for correctness of assembly, according to blueprints, drawings, production and inspection manuals. Examine installation of engines, mechanical equipment, plumbing lines and tanks, wiring shields and brackets in sub-assemblies to verify location and fastening and to determine surface defects, such as scratches and cracks. Examine fit and seal of windows and doors and installation of bulkheads, seats, instrument and decorative panels. Examine installation of floor and wall coverings and upholstery to verify color, quality, and fit of material. Perform weight and balance inspection as well as functional and/or operational check-out of aircraft for final delivery. Must be familiar with various types of composite materials, such as carbon, kvlar, graphite, prepreg materials, etc. Must be familiar with various types of resin used in composite repairs and their application. Perform level 1, 2, and 3 NDI inspections. Electrical Inspection

Inspect and qualify the functional or operational test, check-out, and adjustment of aircraft radio, navigational, and flight control instruments to determine power output, circuit continuity, radiation, pattern, and frequency pressure, vacuum, and electrical instruments such as altimeters, airspeed indicators and directional gyroscopes for defects such as broken dials and surface scratches. Observe the connection of instruments and use standard testing devices to determine that instruments meet specifications. Test electrical equipment and accessories to insure conformance to specifications such as: alternators, batteries, circuit breakers, condensers, solenoids, and starter control valves for surface defects such as rust, grease, and dirt. Dynamic Component Inspection

Inspect and categorize parts as serviceable, repairable, or rejectable. Qualify dynamic component parts by visual, precision measurement, and non-destructive testing inspection methods. Establish disposition and routing of parts to shop and vendor as well as ensure conformity of re-worked parts in accordance with specifications. Perform in-progress inspection of assembled components and return components to service per FAA and quality assurance procedures. Conduct hidden damage inspection of components involved in incidents or accidents as well as assure or perform calibration checks of precision tools and instruments.
  1. Assure compliance with all AE and FAA requirements and regulations including verification of applicable log cards, writing inspection reports, clearing written discrepancies, researching aircraft maintenance records, qualifying aircraft for 100 hour, annual or repair inspections, and the preparation of all necessary documentation in relation to qualifying the airworthiness or return to service of an aircraft, parts/components, or systems.
  2. Receive and review all mandatory, recommended and alert bulletins, Airworthiness Directives and update computer master listing for AE customers.
  3. Operate various types of hand tools and measurement devices to perform required activities.
  4. This position description is not intended to be all-inclusive and employee will also perform other tasks as assigned.
Education

HS education or equivalent. Requires valid certification in the field of aircraft mechanics, electricity, and/or non-destructive testing. (A & P license, FCC 2nd class license, or NDI certificate) Experience

Requires four years related experience in aircraft mechanical, electrical quality assurance inspection activities and/or NDI level 1, 2 and 3 experience. Essential Functions

Requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, diagrams and technical instructions. Must be able to operate a variety of standard and specialized hand tools, power equipment, measuring devices and test equipment. Must be able to move about freely in areas with moving aircraft and parts; handle heavy components and work in areas where exposure to chemicals and fumes will occur. Able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Able to use computer and associated software application packages. NOTE: AE reserves the right to revise or change job duties and responsibilities as the need arises. This position description does not constitute a written or implied contract of employment.
