1. SPECIALTY SUMMARY: Superintends activities engaged in positioning and loading of munitions on aircraft and the installation, maintenance, repair, modifications and servicing of munitions launch, release and suspension systems and aircraft gun systems. 2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: a. PLANS AND ORGANIZES AIRCRAFT ARMAMENT SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES: (1) Plans workloads and schedules work assignments. (2) Establishes and evaluates performance standards, maintenance controls and work procedures. (3) Provides for and controls the use of equipment, space and supplies. (4) Analyzes reports, operation check charts and maintenance records of munitions loading and the maintenance of munitions launch and release systems and aircraft gun systems to determine the need for improving work methods and repair techniques. (5) Coordinates work of weapons maintenance personnel and weapons maintenance functions with effected organizations and activities. b. DIRECTS AIRCRAFT ARMAMENT SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES: (1) Checks methods and techniques employed in loading, adjusting and downloading munitions, including bombs and warheads, guided aircraft missiles and rockets, solid propellant rockets, napalm, chemical spray tanks pylon and ammunition and explosive and propellant devices. (2) Checks methods and techniques employed in maintenance, repair and modification of munitions launch, release, suspension and monitoring systems, aircraft gun systems and related equipment. (3) Evaluates work performance in terms of compliance with policies directives and technical publications. (4) Analyzes productivity and work quality and furnishes information regarding status and expected dates of completion. (5) Directs enforcement of munitions and explosive safety directives rules, and procedures. (6) Inspects and directs corrective action to ensure proper lighting, ventilation, cleanliness, safety and orderliness of work areas. c. SUPERVISES AND CONDUCTS ON-THE-JOB TRAINING: (1) Plans, directs and conducts on-the-job training. (2) Reviews training status to determine level of qualification achieved by individual units. (3) Indoctrinates newly assigned personnel on local policies and procedures. d. INSPECTS AND EVALUATES AIRCRAFT ARMAMENT SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES: (1) Conducts inspections to ensure compliance with policies, regulations, technical publications and safety procedures. (2) Inspects equipment such as munitions launch, release, suspension and monitor systems components, aircraft gun systems components and handling, loading, testing and auxiliary equipment in the hand or organizations, or in aircraft, to ensure proper care, storage and maintenance. (3) Inspects activities to provide assistance in solving maintenance, supply and personnel problems. (4) Reviews maintenance procedures for munitions and solid propellant rockets and motors to ensure compliance with safety directives. (5) Discusses and analyzes inspection reports and recommends, initiates and /or approves corrective action. e. PERFORMS TECHNICAL AIRCRAFT ARMAMENT SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE FUNCTIONS: (1) Confers with supervisors and resolves technical problems associated with aircraft weapons maintenance functions. (2) Interprets technical publications applicable to maintenance, repair, and modification of aircraft gun and munitions systems, loading, adjusting and downloading of munitions and use and maintenance of handling loading, testing and auxiliary equipment. (3) Determines feasibility of repair of components or the need for submission of material deficiency reports. (4) Evaluates operational effectiveness of aircraft gun and munitions systems and recommends modification of equipment. 3. SPECIALTY QUALIFICATIONS: a. KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of basic electricity and the principles of physics, mechanics and pneudraulics and ballistics that apply to aircraft gun and munitions launch, release, suspension, fuzing and arming systems; use of precision measuring tools and test equipment; concepts and application of RSAFM 66 series and supporting publications and munitions loading and safety procedures is mandatory. b. EXPERIENCE: Qualifications as a 26270 and experience in directing functions such as maintenance, repair and the modification of aircraft gun, weapons control and release systems and loading of munitions on aircraft are mandatory. c. TRAINING (1) Reading and writing for supervisors‘ course. (2) Management principles course. d. OTHER: (1) A security clearance is mandatory for the award and retention of this AFSC. (2) Physical profile of S-1 with no record of emotional instability is mandatory. (3) Normal color vision is mandatory. (4) Normal depth perception is mandatory. WEAPONS MAINTENANCE 1.
