Responsible for development of new seat related products, focusing on weight, cost, ergonomics, design for manufacturing and assembly as well as comfort and styling. Works as part of a team with the goal to continuously drive improvements in seat design.
Researches new materials, processes and concepts to facilitate continuous improvement in seat design. Coordinates with outside suppliers and vendors. Reviews regulatory and customer specifications and ensures compliance.
Development - Prepares design requirements and statement of work for new design or components. Prepares layouts including but not limited to structural and articulation systems as well as trim design and cushions. Prepares and reviews weight and cost analysis. Coordinates with industrial designers ensuring best possible styling within production capabilities. Creates or modifies detail design, assemblies and drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software. Performs or coordinates tolerance studies and mechanical analysis. Coordinates comfort studies and cushion and dress cover design. Communicates interdepartmental through frequent design reviews. Responsible to design for manufacturing and assembly.
Prototyping - Coordinates, oversees and supports prototyping of developmental products and show seats.
Requirements:
Must be familiar with 3D design software, preferably PRO-E and/or CATIA V5.
Must be able to think in 3D and create concept sketches to communicate.
Must be able to think creatively.
