Basic Job Duties
This classification covers those employees who perform at journeyman level general and preventative maintenance work involving a wide variety of skills including but not limited to cement masonry, pipe trades, sheet metal and other trades excluding electrical or carpentry work.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Hand tools, burning and welding equipment, various hand tools, indicators, micrometers, power tools, levels, gauges, tools common to various trades.
Examples of specific duties:
· Work following written instructions or verbal directions from foreman.
· Plans and lays out work from detailed assembly and installation blueprints and manufacturers specification sheets, using required shop mathematics and measuring instruments.
· Sets up and operates various machines including drill presses, grinders, lathes or other equipment necessary to machine or fabricate parts or materials. Uses hand tools appropriate to work being performed.
· Performs plumbing and pipe fitting, installing and maintaining in good operating conditions, such systems as water, steam, gas, air conditioning, plumbing, sewage, and other pipe and pipe fitting systems. Diagnoses major system breakdown and takes corrective action.
· Constructs and maintains in good condition a wide variety of sheet metal fixtures and units.
· Performs cement, glazing and plastering work affecting buildings, facilities, or equipment.
· Tests systems on equipment prior to release for operation. Uses proper hand tools.
· Reviews own work for completeness and quality workmanship. Completes required documentation and records.
· Follows established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment.
· May guide other maintenance mechanics in the proper methods of operations and assist employees in solving the more difficult problems involved in work operations. May be part of a maintenance team for a specific program.
Basic Job Requirements/Qualifications
· High School Diploma or equivalent combination, plus 3-5 years experience in similar position.
· Trade school a plus
· Must be able to use a forklift (certified). Some lifting required.
· Must be dependable and able to maintain good attendance track record.
· Be a strong team player and communicator with all contacts.
· Must be organized and detail oriented, courteous, and outgoing.
