Job Desc: Job Summary
Maintenance Examiner (ME) serves as the Program Managers representative in interpreting and implementing the organizations Aircrew Training Program (ATP) with respect to maintenance, maintaining and managing flight records, Air Wing Information System (AWIS) entries, updates of aviation references and publications, and performs operational checks, routine maintenance, and maintenance test flights to ensure the airworthiness of the fleet (35%). Performs duties as a Maintenance Examiner; and conducts training and evaluations of rotary wing Maintenance Pilots (MP) and MEs at PSD (35%) and the evaluation of MPs and MEs in deployed locations to include maintenance standardization program oversight at those deployed locations (30%). Applicant will be required to fly both single and multi-ship day, night, and Night Vision Goggle (NVG) missions; primarily under visual meteorological conditions. Applicant will be required to maintain NVG currency and Instrument proficiency.

Principal Accountabilities
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Single point of contact for Maintenance Test Pilot standardization, the ME assists the program Chief of Standards with the supervision and maintenance of the maintenance standardization program. The ME ensures all MPs/MEs are fully integrated into the ATP, trains and evaluates MPs/MEs in their designated aircraft, ensures compliance with all INL/A Operations directives, Aircrew Training Manuals (ATM), and ATP requirements. As the Program Managers maintenance representative, the ME must possess a complete understanding of the ATP. Additionally the ME must be able to objectively train, evaluate, and document the performance of MPs/MEs, and develop individual flight training plans in support of the organization’s mission and ATP. The ME serves as a member of the Standardization Committee, and as such must be able to provide guidance to all MPs/MEs as well as recommendations for improvement and modification to the existing ATP to ensure compliance with current and future mission requirements. Responsible for standardization administrative duties, i.e. flight records, AWIS, Reports, publications and references. Monitors flight instruction, to include standardization of transitions, annual proficiency reviews, and flight evaluations. Conducts academic and hands-on performance training and administers evaluations to ensure crewmember proficiency and standardization of training in addition to maintaining IATF’s and completing required AWIS entries. Potential for exposure to hostile fire at OCONUS sites is high.

Management Responsibility
Participates in the selection and training process of new Maintenance Pilots and Maintenance Examiners to the INL/A Program; Serves as manager and oversees MP training and evaluation functions, supervises the crew on a daily basis.

Requirements: Knowledge & Skills
1. Branch 15 Aviation MOS series or other military/commercial equivalent is required (153DG series preferred); qualification in S-61 is required prior to or incident to assignment.
2. Individual must demonstrate proficiency in understanding aircraft systems, components, and operations.
3. Individual must possess a thorough knowledge of FAA and ICAO regulations pertinent to the host country and operational requirement.
4. A FAA CFI rating or equivalent military Instructor rating is required.
5. Individual should have experience using Falcon View or its equivalent.
6. Individual must show documented completion of a manufacturer’s course of instruction, military flight training or a DoS program of instruction in S-61 series helicopters.
7. Documented civil or military maintenance test pilot course completion is required.
8. Possess or the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Security Clearance is a condition of employment; an active Secret Security Clearance is preferred.
9. Possess a current US Passport or the ability to obtain one before assignment.

Experience & Education
2,000 total rotary wing flight hours including 1000 hours of turbine engine time. Applicant must be Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and have 300 hours of NVG experience. Applicant requires 300 hours maintenance pilot time. Demonstrated, proven and verifiable aviation experience including ethics, ability, and professionalism of the highest standards are required for this position. Individual must hold a current FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman’s Certificate - Rotorcraft helicopter, FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit, and current FAA Class II Medical Certificate. Recent experience in high mountain/desert and tactical operations is highly desired.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associates Degree preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
1. Must possess physical dexterity and coordination to qualify for Federal Aviation Administration Commercial Pilot Certificate
2. Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for up to twelve (12) hours per day and sit for up to eight (8) hours per day.
3. Must be able to perform rated crewmember duties during mission operations
4. Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
5. Must be able to routinely climb/descend stairs.
6. Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print, maps, aeronautical charts, and weather charts.
7. Must be able to crouch, crawl, routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above/below shoulders.
8. Must be able to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
9. Must meet or exceed Federal Aviation Administration minimum visual acuity and hearing standards for Class II medical certificate.
10. Must be physically capable of climbing vertical ladders or built-in aircraft steps to heights of 10-12 feet.
11. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds to a height of four (4) feet and be required to lift up to 20 pounds to a height of seven (7) feet.
12. May be exposed to certain obstructions on the surface as well as ladders, stairs, etc.
13. May be exposed to rapid or extreme temperature changes.
14. May be exposed to chemical mist, gas, vapors, ultra-violet and infrared radiation.

Must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments. May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure. May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft. May be exposed to fumes, gas, airborne particles, chemical mist, vapors, ultra-violet and infrared radiation. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft. Must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments. Potential for exposure to hostile fire in this region is high.

Travel
Travel to and between CONUS and OCONUS locations as requested is required.
