Job Summary


Operates S-61 helicopters in support of the U.S. Department of State (DoS), Bureau for Diplomatic Security (DS), under oversight from the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office of Aviation (INL/A).


 


Principal Accountabilities


JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Mission is to provide aviation support services in Iraq for Air Transport, Reconnaissance and Security, Casualty Evacuations, Quick Reaction Forces to respond to incidents, for Chief of Mission personnel or other personnel required by U.S. Government Authority to conduct official business. 


2.      Mission tasks may also require aerial gunnery and escort of ground forces.  


3.      Applicant will be required to fly both single and multi-ship day, night, and Night Vision Goggle (NVG) missions; primarily under visual meteorological conditions.  


4.      Applicant will be required to maintain NVG currency and Instrument proficiency. 


5.      The successful applicant will perform duties as a Pilot, Pilot-in- Command, Air Mission Commander, Flight Lead, or Lead Pilot. 


6.      The Lead Pilot will assign other tasks as required.


7.      Upon successful completion of initial training, assignment will be in the Republic of Iraq. 


8.      Potential for exposure to hostile fire in this region is high.


9.      Will be responsible for maintaining weapons qualification with the Glock 9 and M4.

Management may also assign duties as an Instructor Pilot or Maintenance Pilot.

Requirements:  

Knowledge & Skills


1.      FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman’s Certificate Rotorcraft Helicopter.


2.      Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate. IP/SP - An FAA CFI/CFII or equivalent military Instructor rating is required.


3.      MP/ME - Graduate certificate from military or commercial maintenance test pilot course is required.


4.      Individual must possess a thorough knowledge of FAA and ICAO regulations pertinent to the host country and operational requirement. 


5.      Possess, or ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance as a condition of continued employment; an active DoD Secret Security Clearance preferred.


6.      Must possess a current US passport or the ability to obtain one before assignment.


 


Experience & Education


Demonstrated, proven and verifiable aviation experience including ethics, ability, and professionalism of the highest standards are required for this position.  Only resumes showing a minimum of 3,000 hours of helicopter pilot experience including 1,000 hours of turbine engine time will be considered.  Individual must be qualified and have a minimum of 300 hours of NVG pilot time. Individual must hold a current FAA Airman’s Certificate with rotorcraft helicopter and instrument ratings, or equivalent military ratings, and a current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.  Recent experience in desert and tactical operations is highly desired. 3,000 total rotary wing flight hours including 1000 hours of turbine engine time. Applicant must be Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and have 300 hours of NVG experience.   IP/SP applicants require 500 hours turbine instructor pilot or check pilot in a civil or military organization; SP applicants require 1 year experience managing training programs in a formal civilian or military training activity.  MP/ME applicants require 300 hours maintenance pilot time in civil or military organization, ME applicants require 1 year experience managing maintenance programs in a formal civilian or military training activity. 


 


High school diploma or equivalent required.


 


Physical Requirements/Working Environment


1.      Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for up to twelve (12) hours per day and sit for up to eight (8) hours per day.


2.      Must be able to perform rated crewmember duties during mission operations


3.      Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.


4.      Must be able to routinely climb/descend stairs.


5.      Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print, maps, aeronautical charts, and weather charts.


6.      Must be able to crouch, crawl, routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above/below shoulders.


7.      Must be able to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.


8.      Must meet or exceed Federal Aviation Administration minimum visual acuity and hearing standards for Class II medical certificate.


9.      Must be physically capable of climbing vertical ladders or built-in aircraft steps to heights of 10-12 feet.


10.   May be required to lift up to 50 pounds to a height of four (4) feet and be required to lift up to 20 pounds to a height of seven (7) feet.


11.   May be exposed to rapid or extreme temperature changes.


 


Must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments.  May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure. May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft. May be exposed to fumes, gas, airborne particles, chemical mist, vapors, ultra-violet and infrared radiation. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.


 


Travel


Must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments.
