Business Unit Information

The Calgary Police Service, in concert with other agencies and the citizens of Calgary, is instrumental in preserving the quality of life in our community by maintaining Calgary as a safe, vibrant and resilient city.

Responsibilities

The Calgary Police Service requires a helicopter pilot to provide airborne law enforcement around the Calgary region. This involves providing operational air support to ground police units, which includes support to search and rescue.

Hours of Work

This is a 24 hour, seven day per week operation and successful applicants will be required to work rotational shifts (two 11 hour day shifts and two night shifts of 11 and 11.5 hours) followed by four days off.

Requirements:

Qualifications

The successful applicant must have a High school Diploma or an equivalency (e.g. GED) supplemented by a current group IV (Helicopters) instrument rating and 2500 hours of helicopter flying. The successful candidate must possess a valid Canadian Commercial Pilot Licence or Airline Transport Pilot Licence as per the guidelines outlined by the Canadian government located at:

In addition all successful applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Applicants must have completed the night flight time requirements for an unrestricted commercial helicopter pilot licence. Geographic knowledge of the Calgary area, i.e. aeronautical, geographical and weather is an asset; must possess an excellent safety record; have ability to work well in a team environment. Experience in police, medevac, military and vertical reference flying is an asset as are additional relevant experience and qualifications. Current experience on the Eurocopter EC-120 is preferred.

Only education obtained from an accredited institution will be recognized as meeting the minimum qualifications.
Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
Applicants must pass the Calgary Police Service rotary wing training syllabus.
An enhanced security clearance and pre-employment polygraph will be conducted.
