CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Performs Organizational and Intermediate Level maintenance on aviator’s personal survival equipment and aircraft installed safety/survival equipment in accordance with applicable manuals, publications, directives, and instructions. Includes removal, replacement, repair and modification of aircraft and/or aircraft survival equipment systems and components. Required to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, maintain and perform preventive maintenance. Possess the knowledge to operate, adjust, clean, repair and test equipment. Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to read, write and interpret instructions, technical manuals and/or directives necessary for the accomplishment of job assignment. Interface directly with military and company personnel in a courteous and professional manner. Ensures that all parts/components removed from an aircraft are properly documented by a valid Maintenance Action Form and Job Control Number, ensuring repairable, serviceable, or unserviceable parts are properly tagged and turned in and/or disposed of.
Evaluates aircraft discrepancies to identify methods of repair and/or replacement. Identifies necessary parts, materials and tooling requirements.
Issues and receives aircrew survival equipment.
Utilize manufacturers’ maintenance manuals, service bulletins, Maintenance Engineering Directives, Maintenance Requirement Cards, Technical Directives, NAVAIR Instructions, schematics, drawings, blueprints, charts and other applicable publications to remove, replace, repair, test and modify assigned systems.
Must be able to utilize all maintenance manuals, maintenance action forms, equipment history cards and both Navy S.E.A.T.S. and Company computer systems.
Issue and receive flight gear, including measuring and sizing.
Initiate and update check out/return records.
Maintain and perform calendar inspections on oxygen mask assemblies, floatation devices, helmets, fire extinguishers, first aid kits and other related safety/survival equipment.
Rig, fit, modify and repair aviator’s personal survival equipment.
Remove, inspect and install ordnance and explosive devices.
Construct fabric items using sewing machine and performs hand tacking on fabrics.
Remove, install and repair slide fasteners, grommets, snap fasteners and Velcro closures on personal survival equipment and other fabrics.
Orders required survival equipment and supplies.
Install and test emergency radios in survival vest.
Brief and debrief flight personnel on use and condition of survival equipment.
Maintain VIDS boards for accountability and tracking inspection due dates for all associated survival equipment.
Perform aircraft conditional and special inspections of installed safety/survival equipment.

| Requirements: |
Knowledge:Possess knowledge/expertise in NAMP OPNAVINST 4790.2, NAVAIR 11-110-1, 13-1-6 series manuals and other applicable maintenance/technical manuals. Must have working knowledge of aircrew survival equipment and associated explosive devices. Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and to follow verbal and written instruction.Experience:Must have two (2) years experience in aviator’s personal survival equipment and aircraft installed safety/survival equipment maintenance.Education/Licenses:Completion of U.S. Navy Aircrew Survival Equipmentman “A” school or other military, civilian or manufacturer schools with equivalent curriculum. Graduation from high school of (GED) required. Requires valid driver’s license. Must be able to pass any government and/or company licensing/qualification requirements for the position.Physical Effort:Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires frequent climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing and reaching above shoulder level, pushing or pulling weight up to 50 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires corrected vision to include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Requires hearing to normal range. May require use of respirator. Must be physically qualified to handle ordnance. Working Conditions:Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that range from a standard shop type environment, where there is no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, direct sun, etc. May be required to work in areas where noise hazards are prevalent.Potential Hazards: Exposure to explosive devices, high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets; working at heights on or around aircraft and machinery.Work Location: Aircraft maintenance shops, hangars and flight line. |
