Job Desc: Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, and auxiliary power units. Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, rivet gun, and drills. Reads and interprets manufacturers drawings and technical publications. Performs phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, inspects jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, and miscellaneous wear and damage. Tests engine operation using testing equipment. Removes engines from aircraft, repairs or replaces defective engine components, installs engines in aircraft. Performs various pre-flight, thru-flight and post-flight inspections, checks, services and lubricates aircraft and engine systems as needed. Performs maintenance documentation in support of assigned tasks and operations.
Requirements: Marine Corps A school or T/M/S specific MOS previously held for this skill rating. Must have at least eighteen months experience maintaining EA-6B power plants and related systems at the Organizational level. Must have documented experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention. Must have a knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts, requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair, must have basic knowledge of electrical theory, must have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers. Must possess working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications, technical directives, safety procedures, ground support equipment program, and special tools. Must have the ability to read and interpret drawings.
