Since 1979, CareFlite has provided air and ground ambulance services to the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. CareFlite is the oldest joint use helicopter program in the United States and the eighth oldest air medical program. Today, CareFlite, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, operates five helicopter bases, 911, critical and non-critical care ground ambulance, wheelchair van service, fixed wing air ambulance, a state-of-art communications center, and an outreach education program. CareFlite is sponsored by Baylor Health Care System, JPS Health Network, Methodist Health System, Parkland Health and Hospital System and Texas Health Resources (Arlington Memorial, Harris Methodist and Presbyterian Hospitals).
