Job Description - Managing DER
 
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the engineering data, instructions, documents, and technical support that economically ensure the safety, airworthiness, and reliability of completed and modified aircraft.
 
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Manage structures, electrical, systems, and flight sciences engineering functions.
2.Provide budgetary data on projects and issues as directed.
3.Report on the status of projects and issues as directed.
4.Liaise with manufacturers; maintenance representatives, repair and overhaul facilities; outside engineering departments; regulatory personnel; and other outside agencies.
5.Review work of consultant; contract Structures, electrical, systems, and flight sciences engineers.
6.Evaluate FARs, Notices of Proposed Rule making, Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, Service Letters, and other notifications of in-service issues.
7.Organize, develop and provide all necessary Engineering documentation required to complete aircraft structures, electrical, and mechanical systems modifications and repairs within the allocated time schedule and budget allowance.
8.Prepare meeting materials and presents status updates, including the status of drawings and substantiation documents, as required to keep all parties informed of progress, gain team consensus and ensure progress is made, overseeing the avionics/electrical package to completion. Prepare staffing plans, anticipate critical path issues and set a schedule to meet program schedules and budgets.
9.Plan and oversee the engineering drawing and substantiation data packages.
10.Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, ETC:
 
1.Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. FAA DER a plus.
2. 2+ years prior experience in progressive Engineering management roles to include a minimum of 8 years at the Director level is preferred.
3.Ability to exercise technical problem solving skills and crisis management.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 
 
1.Thorough knowledge of aviation products in the Domestic/international aviation industry with particular focus on the Restricted Category Rotary Aircraft.  Prefer UH60-S70 experience.
2.Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations and other Civil Aviation Authority Regulations pertaining to modifying the Type Certificate of Transport Category Aircraft.
3.Strong interpersonal skills as well as excellent written and verbal communications skills.
4.Planning and organizational skills necessary to prioritize, assign and coordinate workload of assigned area and employees within a multiple project setting.
5.  Able to draft and implement "Project Specific Certification Plan" and coordinate with different FAA branches to take STC projects from concept to completion.
