MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING MANAGER (Avionics New Product Introduction)
As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager of Avionics New Product Introduction at SpaceX, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. You will own the relationship between our development and production teams. You will provide input into the design and development of new and existing hardware and take a lead role in manufacturing on our current and next generation vehicles.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a large team of engineers for the Avionics Manufacturing Engineering team. Responsible products will include Computing, RF Devices, Power Management and Distribution, Sensors, Video Systems, Motor Controllers, Flight Safety and various other electro-mechanical assemblies for all vehicle avionics systems.

  • Lead team through a dynamic new product development environment, supporting development timelines and ensuring that product is effectively introduced to production.

  • Drive continuous improvement of DfX practices and strengthen the new product introduction process.

  • Incorporate business, manufacturing and production metrics to measure and then optimize productivity in all areas.

  • Act as a forcing function for excellence and aggressively focus on cost reduction in every element of design, production and supply chain processes.

  • Drive new process development and process qualification to produce space flight quality products and facilitate new product introduction in a high paced, aggressive environment.

  • Work closely with development and design engineers, internal production resources and external vendors to make parts that are designed for manufacturability, reliability, source-ability, etc. to improve the product.

  • Develop strategies and drive measureable yield improvement, work floor efficiency improvement, risk reduction and process control improvement.

  • Act as technical decision maker and advisor to team.

  • Positively impact and improve every aspect of life at SpaceX through motivational leadership to drive the business forwards.


Job Requirements:
B.S. Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, and/or engineering discipline.
  • 3 years of experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with taking products from research and development into production.

  • Experience leading a team of engineers.


  • PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment and transitioning products from development into production.

    • Demonstrated exceptional achievements at SpaceX and/or previous companies to rapidly improve production through process improvements while focusing on product reliability and mission success.

    • Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers and managers.

    • Experience with the design and manufacture of high reliability electronics assemblies.

    • Technically well-rounded and displays a proficiency in electronics manufacturing techniques, processes and equipment including a strong working knowledge of EEE Piece Parts, PCB, PCBA, Electromechanical, Test.

    • Experience with process development/qualification, new product development, PFMEA, Capacity/Resource Planning and Lean Manufacturing.

    • Experience with Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, Reliability, Source-ability, etc. (DfX)

    • Ability to influence other organizations through strong engineering/business rationale and data.

    • Ability to effectively organize, assign and track work/deliverables.

    • Ability to develop manufacturing strategies based on specialized business needs.

    • Highly self-motivated and organized with strong written and oral communication skills.


    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to work all required hours and shifts, and extended hours, as needed.
