Job Description:

About HALO Flight

HALO Flight is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Helicopter Air Ambulance (HAA) company serving the South Texas Coastal Bend region with life-saving emergency air medical transport since 1987.  HALO is committed to rapid response, aviation safety, clinical excellence, and community partnership.  Our fleet, maintenance program, and personnel support 24/7 operations across a large area of South Texas and its challenging coastal weather environment.

HALO Flight is actively seeking an experienced Director of Maintenance who is a “by example” leader, to lead HALO’s maintenance operations and program into the future.

Position Summary

The Director of Maintenance is a key leadership role at HALO, responsible for the oversight, coordination and management of all aircraft maintenance activities within HALO Flight’s operation.  This position ensures strict compliance with FAA regulations, manufacturer guidance, HALO Flight’s  General Operations Manual (GOM) and the organization’s Safety Management System (SMS).

The DOM works collaboratively with HALO’s leadership, Maintenance personnel, Chief Pilot and Director of Operations to ensure aircraft availability, support safe operations and uphold HALO Flight’s long-standing commitment to community service and safe operations.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Technical Oversight

  • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with 14 CFR Parts 135, 43, 91, Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), and manufacturer maintenance programs.
  • Maintain and update HALO Flight’s GOM, MEL, NEF and ensure alignment with OpSpecs and regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the FAA FSDO regarding maintenance and regulatory matters.
  • Maintain accurate aircraft status reports, logbooks, maintenance records, and electronic tracking systems.

Maintenance Program Management

  • Oversee and manage all scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance to support HALO Flight’s 24/7 response capability.
  • Develop maintenance schedules that reduce downtime while preserving compliance and safety.
  • Coordinate major component changes, heavy maintenance events, and vendor support.

Leadership & Personnel Development

  • Provide leadership and direction to mechanics, and support staff across all HALO bases.
  • Ensure maintenance personnel training, qualifications, duty times, and professional development remain compliant and up-to-date.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, emphasizing proactive hazard reporting, risk management, and SMS engagement.

Administrative & Strategic Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance budgets, expenditures, parts inventory and vendor contracts.
  • Oversee procurement and ensure proper sourcing of parts, tools and consumables.
  • Support operational decision-making regarding aircraft MEL deferrals, airworthiness concerns and maintenance risk assessments.
  • Assist leadership during aircraft acquisitions, configuration changes and fleet modernization initiatives.

Base salary commensurate with experience and competitive with current industry rates.

Why choose HALO Flight?  We are a small close-knit company that operates more like family than traditional HAA operators.  You will be known the minute you get here and your work will be noticed and appreciated—you’ll never be just a number or back office leader.  Company gatherings, events and volunteer opportunities within the community are norms that you can expect and enjoy.   Opportunities for training and advancement within the company are all possibilities at HALO Flight.  If we sound like a good long-term fit for you, then we want to hear from you!  Don’t delay, apply today!
