This summary provides a listing of the knowledge, skills and abilities that are critical components for the position of Aircraft Maintenance Planner & Scheduler.

B.    General

The Aircraft Maintenance Planner & Scheduler is a full-time position that will report to the Director of Technical Services. This position interacts primarily with the Director of Quality, Manager of CASS and Aircraft Reliability, Manager of Aircraft Technical Records, Manager of Quality, Manager of Materials, Maintenance Control and Managers of System Operations Control. The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of all FAR aircraft heavy maintenance requirements and is responsible for ensuring scheduling, compliance, control consistent with company GMM and regulatory requirements. Good communication skills are required and the ability to negotiate with and manage external vendors to ensure all requirements are met and planned for at the best value for the company. This individual must be able to exhibit the values and culture of the company while working with mechanics and flight crews in a fast paced/dynamic environment.

C.    Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the continuous updating of the Company’s Heavy Maintenance Plan for all aircraft and engines ensuring compliance with all scheduling requirements and regulatory/technical requirements for heavy checks in the most cost-effective manner;
  • Negotiate with vendors and suppliers of heavy maintenance services, oversees their activities before, during, and after aircraft heavy checks, and ensure that the best value is achieved for the Company while preventing Company operations from being disrupted due to planned heavy maintenance;
  • Create, review, and sequence work packages for all aircraft heavy maintenance services and schedules according to FAA, GMM, or other regulatory requirements in the most efficient way possible;
  • Ensures aircraft maintenance controllers and supervisors are communicating effectively with operations staff, flight crews, flight mechanics and/others as needed as part of the daily operation;
  • Works within limits of authority to approve discrepancies that are deferrable under approved MEL and NEF guidelines;
  • Supports corrective actions suggested by aircraft maintenance controllers or supervisors based on aircraft service-history, analysis, applicable General Maintenance Manual (GMM) guidance, and Company guidelines;
  • Helps coordinate with aircraft maintenance controllers or supervisors other Company maintenance and/or contract maintenance providers to work aircraft discrepancies with minimal downtime;
  • Creates work schedules and bid for all aircraft maintenance controllers and supervisors assuring staff coverage that always meets the Company’s needs of service;
  • Helps to ensure aircraft maintenance controllers and supervisors are entering all maintenance related discrepancies into computer tracking systems as required;
  • During Heavy Maintenance activity, coordinate material support requirements for routine and non-routine items;
  • During Heavy Maintenance activity, continuously review manpower/labor assigned and compare to expected requirements;
  • Coordinate with other maintenance providers for spare parts/engines as required to minimize operational disruption to schedule;
  • Ensure maintenance systems are properly updated with aircraft/engine block hours, flight hours, cycles as appropriate before and after heavy maintenance;
  • May be asked to schedule maintenance deferred items during periods where no heavy maintenance is being performed;
  • Uphold safety and security procedures and awareness;
  • Has the ability to obtain additional qualifications through training and education as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Technical Services or VP Maintenance and Engineering.
Job Requirements:
  • Associate degree or higher education required;
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate;
  • Five (5) years’ experience or more with maintenance programs and/or maintenance program control in a Part 121 environment required;
  • Five (5) years’ experience or more with commercial aircraft and engine records requirements in a part 121 environment required; experience with 767 aircraft a plus;
  • Five (5) years’ experience or more in Part 121 maintenance control environment overseeing the activities of maintenance control supervisors and/or maintenance controllers;
  • Familiarity with AMOS or other similar maintenance systems preferred;
  • Proficient with accessing online aircraft manuals and other related publications;
  • Ability to work with  all levels of management  and contract  vendors required;
  • Ability to communication effectively; in both oral and written  communication;
  • Ability to work under pressure in a team environment;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word;
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a driving record from the state of your primary residence that meets the Company’s insurance standards;
  • Pass a two (2) year drug and alcohol background check, pre-employment drug test, and criminal history records check (CHRC);
  • Eligible to work in the United States;
  • Some travel required.
