Role Description
To work as part of a team to provide Radiography and supplementary NDE support to the business, specifically on high integrity pipework and structure welding on submarines
• Strong understanding of the end to end process of Radiography principles and applying these to support submarine build.
• Conversant with the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 and radiological safety in industrial environments.
Core Activities
• Highly proficient in the use of radiographic inspection equipment
• Interpreting and applying Gamma and X-ray techniques for compound and site Radiography
• Supporting supplementary surface inspections such as DPI and MPI
• Update and record findings in the quality repositories for report storage
• Support learning and on the job training of S2 radiography inspectors
• Carrys out routine maintenance and functional checks on processing equipment and supports calibration of equipment
• Carrys out daily function and safety checks on Radiography enclosures
• Input on radiation protection discussions with colleagues in the department
• Be part of a contingency team for radiation contingency plans
Key Accountabilities
• Carry’s out Radiography work in line with department processes, Local Rules, radiation risk assessments and obeys HS&E control measures
• Control of own dosimetry and tracking for radiation safety
• Accurately report on findings and record all information within various reporting platforms
• Drives improvement and delivers radiography best practice with positive engagement
• Liaison with third party auditors such as HSE, LRQA, ONR & EA
• Support Quality Investigations within submarines
Essential Qualifications
• PCN Level 2 in RT welds with ARS
• PCN Level 2 in DPI
• Interpretation experience
• PCN Level 2 in MT / CR/ U.T 31 & 3.2 Desirable
• PCN / CSWIP Weld inspection Desirable
• Knowledge and experience of X-ray and Gamma Ray (iridium/Selenium) Techniques
• Working at height in submarines and in confined spaces
• Reactor safety (desirable)
